Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3
HENDY WOODS COMMUNITY CONTINUES TO ACTIVELY ENGAGE WITH THE MENDOCINO COUNTY COMMUNITY, OUR VISITORS, STATE PARKS STAFF, AND OTHER NON-PROFITS. WE CONTINUE TO PAY THE DAY USE FEE FOR ALL LOCAL RESIDENTS ON THE SECOND SUNDAY OF EVERY MONTH AND FOR ALL MENDOCINO COUNTY RESIDENTS ON NEW YEAR'S DAY. WE PROVIDE A CREDIT ACCOUNT AT THE LOCAL HARDWARE STORE SO PARK STAFF CAN PURCHASE NEEDED MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR ITEMS WITHOUT A LENGTHY STATE REQUISITION PROCESS. OUR VOLUNTEERS RUN THE VISITOR CENTER AND LEAD GUIDED HIKES DURING THE SUMMER SEASON. WE PROVIDE A MECHANISM FOR ATTENDEES AT A LOCAL BEER FEST EVENT TO USE BUS TRANSPORTATION TO AND FROM HENDY WOODS AND THE EVENT IN BOONVILLE TO AVOID DANGEROUS DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE. WHEN OUR LOCAL AAA VENDOR WENT OUT OF BUSINESS AND CAMP HOSTS REPORTED CAMPERS WERE INCREASINGLY HAVING TO WAIT FOR HOURS TO GET THEIR CAR BATTERIES JUMPED, WE PURCHASED TWO CAR BATTERY JUMP STARTERS THAT THE CAMP HOSTS PROVIDE TO CAMPERS AS NEEDED ALONG WITH INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO USE IT AND A LIABILITY WAIVER FORM FOR USE. THESE JUMP STARTERS HAVE BEEN USED COUNTLESS TIMES SINCE THEIR ACQUISITION. WE ARE IN ONGOING DISCUSSIONS WITH SAVE THE REDWOODS LEAGUE REGARDING UPGRADING THE PARK'S INTERPRETIVE MATERIALS. AS PART OF THESE DISCUSSIONS, WE ARE IN THE INITIAL PLANNING STAGES FOR CREATING A NEW VISITOR CENTER TO REPLACE THE SMALL, LESS THAN PLEASING 20-YEAR-OLD MODULAR BUILDING THAT CURRENTLY HOUSES THE VISITOR CENTER. RELOCATION IS ALSO UNDER CONSIDERATION.HENDY WOODS IS CURRENTLY ONE OF THE PARKS DESIGNATED FOR FREE DAY USE ENTRY FOR ANY 4TH GRADE STUDENT AND THEIR FAMILIES UNDER A STATEWIDE PROGRAM. WE ARE WORKING TO ENSURE THAT AS MANY MENDOCINO COUNTY AND ANDERSON VALLEY 4TH GRADE FAMILIES AS POSSIBLE ARE ABLE TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS PROGRAM.
