CIVIC ENGAGEMENT: FAITH IN ACTION FUND HELPED PEOPLE OF FAITH WHO ARE ORGANIZING IN LOCAL COMMUNITIES AND STATES TO DEVELOP GREATER POWER TO HOLD ELECTED OFFICIALS ACCOUNTABLE TO REPRESENTING THEIR CONSTITUENTS AND THE COMMON GOOD, RATHER THAN NARROW SPECIAL INTERESTS. FAITH IN ACTION FUND HELPED CLOSE THE RACIAL AND AGE GAPS IN VOTING RATES. ALSO, THROUGH ITS NONPARTISAN VOTER EDUCATION AND REGISTRATION, FAITH IN ACTION FUND WORKED TO CHANGE THE RULES GOVERNING VOTING AND ELECTION ADMINISTRATION SO THAT EVERY PERSON HAS THE RIGHT TO VOTE AND EVERY VOTE HAS EQUAL POWER. FAITH IN ACTION FUND FOCUSED IN 2021 MAINLY ON THE POLITICAL LEADS PROGRAM. 2021 FLIPPING THE FORMULA POLITICAL LEADS COHORT IN 2021 THE FAITH IN ACTION FUND LEAD ITS FIRST COURSE FOR 35 POLITICAL LEADS IN OUR NETWORK ORGANIZATIONS FROM NEW HAMPSHIRE, MASSACHUSETTS, PENNSYLVANIA, NEW YORK, FLORIDA, ALABAMA, TEXAS, MISSOURI, INDIANA, OHIO, MINNESOTA, MICHIGAN, NEW MEXICO, COLORADO AND ARIZONA. IT IS AN INTENSIVE 17-WEEK ONLINE COURSE WITH WEEKLY CLASSES, WORKSHOPS, READING, AND LECTURES BY POLITICAL LEADERS IN THE PROGRESSIVE MOVEMENT, AS WELL AS A TWO-DAY IN PERSON WORKSHOP ON PROGRAM PLANNING. THE COURSE HIGHLIGHTS SOME OF THE MOST IMPORTANT INNOVATIONS IN IMPACTFUL POLITICAL PROGRAM, INCLUDING RELATIONAL ORGANIZING AND RACE-CLASS NARRATIVE. THE COURSE IS EQUIPPING POLITICAL LEADS ACROSS OUR NETWORK TO ACHIEVE THREE OUTCOMES IN THEIR LOCAL OR STATE ORGANIZATIONS THIS FALL:1. DEVELOPING A POLITICAL & POWER ANALYSIS OF THEIR LANDSCAPE, WITH A STRONG RACE LENS, WHICH INCLUDES BLACK WOMEN, FORMERLY INCARCERATED AND IMMIGRANT LEADERSHIP 2. THE DESIGN AND LEADERSHIP OF A POLITICAL EDUCATION AND RECRUITMENT CAMPAIGN AROUND RACE, FAITH, POLITICS & POWER THAT CAN REACH HUNDREDS AND EXPAND THEIR BASES IN EACH OF THEIR COMMUNITIES THIS FALL 3. DEVELOPMENT OF THEIR ORGANIZATION'S POLITICAL ORGANIZING PLAN FOR 2021, INCLUDING VOTER REGISTRATION, DIRECT VOTER ENGAGEMENT, BALLOT MEASURES, PRIMARY AND GENERAL ELECTION WORK, AND ISSUE AGENDAS FOR THE NEXT TWO YEARS. THE COURSE FOCUSES ON STRENGTHENING THE AUTHENTIC LEADERSHIP OF THE POLITICAL LEADS, THE LARGE MAJORITY OF WHOM ARE WOMEN AND MEN OF COLOR, CITIZENS RETURNING FROM INCARCERATION OR PEOPLE FROM IMMIGRANT COMMUNITIES.
BALLOT INITIATIVES - THE ACTION FUND, WORKING WITH OTHER ORGANIZATIONS AND GROUPS, PLAYED A PIVOTAL ROLE IN THE FOLLOWING:COLORADO: PASSAGE OF A PAID FAMILY & MEDICAL LEAVE STATE POLICY.FLORIDA: INCREASED MINIMUM WAGE TO $15 AN HOUR FOR WORKERS TO BE ABLE TO MAKE A FAIR WAGE.PHILADELPHIA: ENDED STOP AND FRISK PATROLLING BY POLICE OFFICERS.PHILADELPHIA: CREATED A CITIZENS POLICE OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE.MISSOURI: EXPANDED MEDICAID UNDER THE ACA.CALIFORNIA: PROTECTED CRIMINAL JUSTICE REFORM (VOTE NO ON 20). OHIO: PASSED A CHARTER AMENDMENT WITH FUNDED POLICE OVERSIGHT COMMISSION WITH SUBPOENA POWER.
