COMMUNITY BASED ARTS PROGRAMS. OUR COMMUNITY-BASED PROGRAMMING INCLUDED WAR LONG RESIDENCIES AT MULTIPLE SCHOOLS FOCUSED AROUND SOCIAL EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND HEALTHY SCHOOL COMMUNITIES, AS WELL AS PARTNERSHIPS WITH COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS, SUCH AS MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT ORGANIZATIONS, MUSEUMS, AND ADVOCACY GROUPS. RISING YOUTH THEATRE SERVED APPROXIMATELY 750 STUDENTS THROUGH THESE PROGRAMS DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR, WITH A HYBRID OF VIRTUAL AND IN PERSON PROGRAMMING.
ORIGINAL PRODUCTIONS. RISING YOUTH THEATRE PRODUCES ORIGINAL PLAYS WITH YOUTH AND ADULTS AROUND SOCIAL JUSTICE ISSUES. THIS YEAR INCLUDED THE PRODUCTION OF FACE TO FACE, A PLAY ABOUT THE INTERSECTIONS OF RACE, CLASS, AND AGE, WHICH ENGAGED APPROXIMATELY 30 ARTISTS AND WAS EXPERIENCED BY MORE THAN 1,000 PEOPLE VIRTUALLY, AS WELL AS THE LIGHT RAIL PLAYS, WHICH RETURNED FOR THE 8TH YEAR IN A ROW, AS A FILMED, VIRTUAL PRODUCTION SEEN BY MORE THAN 700 PEOPLE.
ARTS LEARNING CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS. RISING YOUTH THEATRE OFFERS A WIDE VARIETY OF CLASSES AND CAMPS, BOTH IN PERSON (BEFORE COVID-19) AND VIRTUALLY. THESE PROGRAMS SERVE YOUNG PEOPLE AGES 5-18, AND USE ART AS A TOOL FOR GROWING AND LEARNING, BUILDING COMMUNITY, AND ADVOCATING FOR YOURSELF AND YOUR PEERS. DURING THE 2020-2021 YEAR THESE PROGRAMS WERE OFFERED VIRTUALLY TO APPROXIMATELY 120 STUDENTS.
