Joplin, MO PURPOSE: Joplin Humane Society project is a person/pet walking track. This required a great deal of ground prep, and results in an environment to provide individuals and families a safe and positive place to walk the pets in the center. The site originally would be muddy and not very inviting. This project added a healthy activity for the participants and helps the shelter provide volunteers to make sure the pets housed remain healthy until adopted. This reduces the hours needed for paid staff, and will hopefully end up with adoptions as a result of the connections between the participants and the pets. Happy pet owners often are healthier as a result of the relationship and time spent together. | $15,000 |
Joplin, MO PURPOSE: Stained Glass Theatre had significant damage to their owned facility as a result of the 2011 Joplin EF-5 tornado. They we unable to do more than patch for several years. We agreed to fund up to $10,000 of a re-roofing of their building. They managed to get some of the labor donated and finally were able to get the project complete. We are happy to see funds from our Memorial Run go to fund such a worthy project so this organization can concentrate on promotion of the performing arts in the Joplin community. | $10,000 |
