FILMSCENE'S MISSION IS TO CHALLENGE, INSPIRE, EDUCATE, AND ENTERTAIN OUR DIVERSE COMMUNITIES THROUGH THE SHARED DISCOVERY OF FILM.

FILMSCENE SERVES THE EASTERN IOWA REGION THROUGH FULL-TIME, COMMUNITY-SUPPORTED CINEMA IN DOWNTOWN IOWA CITY. FILMSCENE ANNUALLY PRESENTS OVER 300 UNIQUE NEW RELEASE AND REPERTORY FILMS, WITH BROAD REPRESENTATION OF GENRES, FILMMAKERS, AND DISTRIBUTORS WITHIN THE INTERNATIONAL FILM ECOSYSTEM. IN ADDITION, FILMSCENE SERVES AS A COMMUNITY HUB FOR FILM EDUCATION, COMMUNITY DIALOGUES, AND FILMMAKER SUPPORT OFTEN IN PARTNERSHIP WITH OTHER NONPROFITS AND COMMUNITY GROUPS. FILMSCENE IS COMMITTED TO PROVIDING ACCESS TO OUR PROGRAMMING THROUGH OPEN CAPTIONS SCREENINGS, ACCESSIBLE THEATERS, SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS, A COMMITMENT TO DIVERSE FILMS, AND CREATING A WELCOMING ENVIRONMENT FOR ALL. NOTABLE 2021 ACCOMPLISHMENTS INCLUDE TWO MAJOR INITIATIVES. FILMSCENE COMPLETED THE PURCHASE OF ITS FILMSCENE AT THE CHAUNCEY FACILITIES, TAKING OWNERSHIP OF ITS PRIMARY EXHIBITION SPACE. THE ORGANIZATION ALSO BUILT AN OUTDOOR CINEMA IN COOPERATION WITH THE CITY OF IOWA CITY PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT, WHICH FEATURED FREE PROGRAMMING FROM APRIL THROUGH OCTOBER IN A PROGRAM KNOWN AS FILMSCENE IN THE PARK.
