PENTIMENTI IS AN ARTS NONPROFIT AND DOCUMENTARY PRODUCTION COMPANY BASED IN CHICAGO WITH A MISSION TO DEVELOP, SUPPORT, AND EXHIBIT FILMS ABOUT ART AND ARTISTS. FOR THE FIRST SEVERAL YEARS OF ITS EXISTENCE, PENTIMENTI'S PRIMARY ACTIVITY HAS BEEN THE PRODUCTION AND DISTRIBUTION OF ITS FIRST FILM, HAIRY WHO & THE CHICAGO IMAGISTS, WHICH FOCUSES ON THE HISTORY, IMPACT, AND LEGACY OF A GROUP OF VISUAL ARTISTS FROM THE SCHOOL OF THE ART INSTITUTE OF CHICAGO WHO CAME TO PROMINENCE STARTING IN THE 1960S. THE FILM HAS SCREENED NATIONALLY AND INTERNATIONALLY, AND IS AVAILABLE DIGITALLY AND ON DVD/BLU-RAY. TO SUPPLEMENT THE FILM, PENTIMENTI CREATED THE CHICAGO IMAGIST WEB ARCHIVE, A FREE ONLINE RESOURCE FOR PEOPLE TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THE ARTISTS. IN 2014, PENTIMENTI BEGAN WORK ON ITS SECOND FEATURE-LENGTH DOCUMENTARY, A 3-D DOCUMENTARY FILM ABOUT THE LIFE AND WORK OF ARTIST AND MARINE H.C. WESTERMANN, WHICH IS CURRENTLY THE ORGANIZATION'S PRIMARY ACTIVITY.
CONTINUED FROM ACITIVITY ONE...THE FILM IS CONCEIVED AND DIRECTED BY PENTIMENTI'S ARTISTIC DIRECTOR AND PRESIDENT, LESLIE BUCHBINDER, AND FEATURES INTERVIEWS WITH ED RUSCHA, FRANK GEHRY, AND MANY OTHERS. AS A VETERAN OF WORLD WAR II AND THE KOREAN WAR WHO STRUGGLED WITH THE RAMIFICATIONS OF MODERN WARFARE, WESTERMANN'S DRAMATIC PERSONAL HISTORY IS TRACED THROUGH HIS BEGUILING, SURREAL ARTWORKS. PENTIMENTI HAS ALSO RESTORED AND RE-RELEASED ARCHIVAL FILMS ABOUT ARTISTS.
CONTINUED FROM ACTIVITY ONE... IN ADDITION TO ITS FILMMAKING ENDEAVORS, PENTIMENTI HAS REGULARLY PROGRAMMED PUBLIC SCREENINGS WITH ACCOMPANYING PANEL DISCUSSIONS. PENTIMENTI HAS ALSO BEGUN OFFERING A GRANT FOR WOMEN, NON-BINARY, AND/OR LGBTQ EMERGING FILMMAKERS MAKING PROJECTS ABOUT ART AND ARTISTS. IN 2022, PENTIMENTI LAUNCHED THE ART DOCUMENTARY DATABASE, A FREE ONLINE EDUCATION RESOURCE THAT ALLOWS USERS TO BROWSE OVER 100+ FILMS ABOUT ART AND ARTISTS.
