TUCSON'S JANUARY 8TH MEMORIAL FOUNDATION WAS ESTABLISHED TO DEVELOP A MEMORIAL TO REMEMBER THE TRAGIC SHOOTING THAT OCCURRED AT CONGRESSWOMAN GIFFORDS' "CONGRESS ON YOUR CORNER" EVENT IN TUCSON, ARIZONA ON JANUARY 8, 2011. THE COMPLETED MEMORIAL WILL HONOR THOSE WHO WERE KILLED OR INJURED THAT DAY, COMMEMORATE THE EXTRAORDINARY COMMUNITY RESPONSE TO THE TRAGEDY, AND ASSURE THAT FUTURE GENERATIONS UNDERSTAND THE EVENTS THAT UNFOLDED AND THE SIGNIFICANT ROLE OF THE DEMOCRATIC PROCESS THAT WAS AT THE HEART OF THAT DAY'S "CONGRESS ON YOUR CORNER".

IN FISCAL YEAR 2022, TUCSON'S JANUARY 8TH MEMORIAL FOUNDATION CONTINUES TO OFFER A QUIET MEDITATION AREA FOR THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY AND ESPECIALLY THOSE DIRECTLY AFFECTED BY THE 2011 SHOOTING. A PERMANENT EXHIBIT AT THE ARIZONA HISTORY MUSEUM CONTINUES TO HONOR AND EDUCATE RESIDENTS AND VISITORS OF THE RESILIENCE OF OUR COMMUNITY. THE BOARD CONTINUES TO WORK WITH PIMA COUNTY TO DEVELOP THE EDUCATIONAL COMPONENT OF THE MEMORIAL. A CEREMONY WAS HELD ON JANUARY 8, 2022 TO REMEMBER THE VICTIMS, SURVIVORS AND THEIR FAMILIES ON THE OCCASION OF THE 10TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE SHOOTING.
