PROVIDE SUPPORT TO ESTABLISH A SELF-SUSTAINING COMMUNITY IN WESTERN KENYA, KNOWN AS KIWANDA CHA TUMAINI, THE SWAHILI TRANSLATION OF THE HOPE FACTORY. THIS MULTI-FACETED VISION INCLUDES A FARMING OPERATION ON APPROXIMATELY 7.5 ACRES, SITUATED ON THE RIVER NZOIA NEAR MUMIAS. IT ALSO INCLUDES A PRIMARY SCHOOL, THE HOPE OF AFRICA CHRISTIAN ACADEMY, SERVING DISADVANTAGED AND ORPHANED CHILDREN IN MUMIAS, WESTERN KENYA. THE SCHOOL UTILIIZES A CLASSICAL CHRISTIAN CURRICULUM PROVIDED BY THE RAFIKI FOUNDATION. THE HOPE OF AFRICA SCHOOL OF THEOLOGY IS ANOTHER FACET OF THIS VISION, TRAINING PASTORS ACROSS EAST AFRICA. THE SCHOOL OF THEOLOGY IS SERVED BY PROFESSORS AND PASTORS FROM MOMBASA, ELDORET, AND NAIROBI, AS WELL AS PASTORS AND TEACHERS FROM THE UNITED STATES, AND ITS STUDENTS RECEIVE THEIR CERTIFICATION FROM MIAMI INTERNATIONAL THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY.
PROVIDE SUPPORT FOR THE HOPE OF AFRICA CHRISTIAN ACADEMY IN MUMIAS, KAKAMEGA COUNTY, WESTERN KENYA, OFFERING A QUALITY CLASSICAL CHRISTIAN EDUCATION FOR PRE-PRIMARY THROUGH CLASS 4. THE REQUIRED KENYAN CURRICULUM IS SUPPLEMENTED WITH EXCELLENT RESOURCES PROVIDED BY THE RAFIKI FOUNDATION. THE TEACHING STAFF IS PROVIDED WITH CONTINUING EDUCATION AND TRAINING, ENABLING EACH OF THEM TO REACH THE HIGHEST CERTIFICATION LEVEL DESIRED. A TRAINED AND HIGHLY-SKILLED STAFF PREPARES AND SERVES TWO NUTRITIOUS MEALS EACH DAY, CONSISTING OF A WELL-BALANCED AND VARIED MENU, INCLUDING FRUIT SERVINGS FOR EACH STUDENT AND STAFF MEMBER. IN ADDITION TO THE SCHOOL'S ACADEMIC FOCUS, WHICH INCLUDES SWAHILI AND ENGLISH, DAILY BIBLE STUDY FOR TEACHERS, STUDENTS AND STAFF INCLUDES HYMN SINGING AND DEVOTIONALS.
PROVIDE SUPPORT FOR THE HOPE OF AFRICA SCHOOL OF THEOLOGY, TRAINING PASTORS FROM RURAL AREAS WHO WOULD OTHERWISE NOT BE ABLE TO ATTEND SEMINARY. WE BRING HIGHLY ACCLAIMED TEACHERS FROM URBAN AREAS IN KENYA AND FROM THE UNITED STATES TO TEACH PASTORS, PROVIDING FREE EDUCATION, HOUSING AND MEALS FOR THE DURATION OF THE CLASSES. WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO IMPLEMENT ONLINE CLASSES TO REACH AREAS IN WESTERN KENYA AND UGANDA WHERE PREVIOUSLY THE PASTORS HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO ATTEND.
IN ADDITION TO OUR OTHER MAJOR EMPHASES, WE HAVE CONTINUED TO DEVELOP KIWANDA CHA TUMAINI'S 'LAND OF PROMISE', AN AGRICULTURAL PROJECT DESIGNED TO PRODUCE HIGH-VALUE CROPS TO HELP OFFSET THE COST OF FEEDING OUR STUDENTS, AND TO MOVE TOWARD MAKING KIWANDA CHA TUMAINI SELF-SUPPORTING. WORKING UNDER THE LEADERSHIP OF LOCAL FARM PLANNING EXPERTS, WE HAVE CONDUCTED SOIL ANALYSIS TESTS AND HAVE PLANTED A NITROGEN-FIXING CROP TO IMPROVE THE FERTILITY OF THE SOIL. CURRENTLY WE HAVE A NURSERY BED WITH SEEDS GROWING AND READY FOR TRANSPLANT. WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO EMPLOY LOCAL LABOR, PROVIDING THE COMMUNITY WITH MUCH-NEEDED JOBS. WE DRILLED A WATER WELL AND HAVE PROVIDED CLEAN WATER, NOT ONLY FOR OUR AGRICULTURAL NEEDS, BUT FOR THE SURROUNDING COMMUNITY AS WELL. WE HAVE INTRODUCED NO-TILL FARMING TO MULTIPLY THE YIELD OF OUR CROPS AND IMPROVE THE SOIL. THIS EFFORT, COMBINED WITH THE SUPPORT WE ARE ABLE TO OFFER OUR COMMUNITY CHURCH, ROUNDS OUT A BROAD APPROACH TO REACH THIS COMMUNITY AS A WHOLE.
