IN 2022/23, 67 AMERICORPS PROMISE FELLOWS SERVING STATEWIDE DEVOTED A TERM OF SERVICE TO CLOSING THE OPPORTUNITY GAP IN MINNESOTA BY PROVIDING EVIDENCE-BASED SUPPORTS TO YOUNG PEOPLE ACROSS URBAN, SUBURBAN, AND RURAL COMMUNITIES. PROMISE FELLOWS INCREASE THE CAPACITY OF SCHOOLS AND COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS BY USING AN ARRAY OF DATA-DRIVEN STRATEGIES; TRACKING ATTENDANCE AND WORK COMPLETION, MONITORING STUDENT ENGAGEMENT, AND SUPPORTING ACADEMIC GROWTH THROUGH CARING ADULT INTERVENTIONS, SERVICE AND SERVICE-LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES AND OUT-OF-SCHOOL-TIME SUPPORTS. DURING THE 2022/23 PROGRAM YEAR, 1,159 STUDENTS RECEIVED SUPPORT FROM AN AMERICORPS PROMISE FELLOW THROUGH INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP SUPPORTS. 53% OF THE STUDENTS SHOWED IMPROVEMENT IN ATTENDANCE, TARDINESS, STUDENT ENGAGEMENT INSTRUMENT SCORE, OR WORK COMPLETION. ADDITIONALLY, 14 AMERICORPS VISTA MEMBERS SERVED AT NONPROFIT AND EDUCATION PARTNER HOST SITES TO STRENGTHEN AND CONNECT RESOURCES AND BEST PRACTICES TO BETTER SERVE YOUTH, ESPECIALLY YOUNG PEOPLE OF COLOR AND YOUTH LIVING IN POVERTY.
THE MINNESOTA YOUTH COUNCIL AMPLIFIES THE VOICE AND POWER OF YOUNG ADULTS, CREATING OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUNG PEOPLE TO ACTIVELY INFLUENCE DECISIONS THAT DIRECTLY IMPACT THEIR LIVES. PARTICIPANTS LEARN AND PRACTICE CIVIC SKILLS THAT PROMOTE CIVIL DISCOURSE AND STRENGTHEN OUR LOCAL AND STATEWIDE DEMOCRATIC SYSTEMS. THE MYC SERVES AS LIAISON BETWEEN YOUNG PEOPLE, YOUTH-LED AND YOUTH-SERVING ORGANIZATIONS, AND STATE POLICYMAKERS AND THE GOVERNOR AND LT. GOVERNOR. THEY ARE THE STATUTORILY-CREATED "VOICE OF YOUTH" IN MINNESOTA AND EXPAND OPPORTUNITIES FOR ALL YOUNG PEOPLE IN MINNESOTA TO HAVE THEIR VOICES HEARD AND INPUT CONSIDERED.THROUGHOUT THE PROGRAM YEAR, ALL VOLUNTEERS AND MEMBERS COMBINED CONTRIBUTED OVER 80,000 HOURS OF SERVICE.
