A PERFORMING ARTS CIRCUS SCHOOL DEDICATED TO INSPIRING ARTISTRY AND CONFIDENCE.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
CLASSES: CIRCUS JUVENTAS OFFERS OUTSTANDING CIRCUS ARTS TRAINING TO YOUTH BETWEEN THE AGES OF 2 TO 22. BOTH INDIVIDUAL AND COLLABORATIVE SKILLS ARE TAUGHT IN A CULTURE OF RESPECT, ACCEPTANCE, AND INDIVIDUALITY, WITH A FOCUS ON SAFETY AND CREATIVITY. OFFERINGS INCLUDE FOUR ANNUAL 8+ WEEK SESSIONS, AS WELL AS SUMMER CAMPS, WORKSHOPS, AND OTHER TRAINING FOR A WIDE RANGE OF CIRCUS ARTS AT THE BEGINNING, INTERMEDIATE, AND ADVANCED LEVELS. SPECIALTY CLASSES ARE OFFERED FOR YOUTH WITH DISABILITIES AND FOR ADULTS. TRAINING IS PROVIDED BY OVER 40 EXPERIENCED AND DIVERSE CIRCUS PROFESSIONALS FROM AROUND THE WORLD. IN FY21 1,100 INDIVIDUALS ENROLLED IN 7,407 CLASS SESSIONS AT OUR FACILITY ALONE. OVER 200 STUDENTS RECEIVED SCHOLARSHIPS FOR ALMOST 500 CLASS SESSIONS, TOTALING OVER $191,000 IN FUNDS AWARDED.
PERFORMANCES: A KEY ELEMENT OF CIRCUS JUVENTAS' TRAINING IS THE PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES OFFERED TO ALL OUR YOUTH. IN A TYPICAL YEAR, OVER 800 BEGINNING/INTERMEDIATE LEVEL STUDENTS PERFORM IN A LARGE-SCALE SPRING PRODUCTION WITH FULL MUSIC, COSTUMING, AND PRESENTATION. THE ANNUAL SUMMER SHOW IS A PROFESSIONAL-LEVEL SHOW WITH ORIGINAL SETS, COSTUMES, MUSIC, AND STAGING INVOLVING OVER 70 OF OUR MOST ADVANCED STUDENTS AND RUNNING OVER 3 WEEKENDS. COMBINED AUDIENCES FOR THESE SHOWS GENERALLY TOP 30,000 ATTENDEES ANNUALLY. IN FY21, SEATING FOR OUR SPRING CELEBRATION PERFORMANCES WERE LIMITED BY STATE REGULATION BUT SEATS AVAILABLE SOLD OUT IN LESS THAN 2 HOURS; OUR SUMMER SHOW GALAXIUM ALSO SOLD WELL AND ADDED A SPECIAL SHOW JUST FOR SENIOR CITIZENS.
HOSTING AND OUTSIDE EVENTS: IN A TYPICAL YEAR, CIRCUS JUVENTAS IS ABLE TO CONDUCT OUTREACH THROUGH SPECIAL EVENTS PERFORMANCES AND WORKSHOPS BOTH UNDER ITS BIG TOP AND AT OTHER EVENTS. IN THE PAST, THESE HAVE INCLUDED: PERFORMANCES AT SUPERBOWL EVENTS, A FEATURED ROLE AT THE SMITHSONIAN ANNUAL SUMMER FESTIVAL, WORKSHOPS BOTH AT OUR SPACE AND AT A VARIETY OF SCHOOLS AND NON-PROFITS, PERFORMANCES AT FUNDRAISERS AND CORPORATE EVENTS, AND A WIDE RANGE OF OTHER ACTIVITIES. IN FY21, WE DID NOT PARTICIPATE IN OUTSIDE EVENTS DUE TO THE ONGOING PANDEMIC.
