Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
THE SATO PROJECT IS DEDICATED TO RESCUING ABUSED AND ABANDONED DOGS IN PUERTO RICO, LOCALLY REFERRED TO AS "SATOS". DURING OUR FIRST SEVERAL YEARS OF OPERATIONS, WE FOCUSED OUR EFFORTS ON A PLACE KNOWN AS "DEAD DOG BEACH" IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF YABUCOA, ONE OF THE ISLAND'S POOREST. SINCE HURRICANE MARIA IN 2017 WE HAVE SIGNIFICANTLY EXPANDED OUR RESCUE EFFORTS. WE HAVE RESCUED OVER 6,500 DOGS TO DATE, REHABILITATED THEM WITH THE HIGHEST STANDARDS OF VETERINARY CARE, AND PLACED THEM IN LOVING HOMES IN THE MAINLAND U.S. WE ALSO WORK TO ADDRESS THE UNDERLYING CAUSES OF OVERPOPULATION, ABANDONMENT, AND ABUSE IN PUERTO RICO THROUGH COMMUNITY OUTREACH AND OUR LOW-COST SPAY, NEUTER, AND VACCINE PROGRAM.
THE SATO PROJECT IS WORKING TO MAKE PERMANENT CHANGE FOR ANIMAL WELFARE IN PUERTO RICO BY TACKLING THE PROBLEM OF OVERPOPULATION THROUGH COMMUNITY OUTREACH AND SUBSIDIZED VETERINARY CARE AND SPAY/NEUTER PROGRAMS. TO DATE, WE HAVE SPAYED/NEUTERED OVER 7,500 DOGS AND CATS THROUGH THE SPAYATHON FOR PUERTO RICO COALITION AND OUR COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAM, TSP ALSO INCLUDE CANINE VACCINATION CLINICS AS PART OF COMMUNITY OUTREACH.
