TRANSITIONAL HOUSING FOR WOMEN LEAVING INCARCERATION. ESTHER RESIDENCE PROVIDES A SAFE, NURTURING COMMUNITY THAT IS BASED ON SAFETY, RESPECT AND DIGNITY

15 WOMEN WERE RESIDENTS IN 2021. OF THESE, 1 MOVED TO A SOBER HOUSE, 4 MOVED IN WITH FAMILY, 5 STAYED INTO 2022 AND OTHERS CHOSE ONLY VERY SHORT STAYS; 9 WOMEN RECONNECTED WITH THEIR CHILDREN & FAMILY MEMBERS TO THE HAPPINESS OF EVERYONE. FORMER RESIDENTS CONTACTED US TO SHARE SUCCESSES, SHOW US THEIR GRANDCHILDREN, BROUGHT CHRISTMAS GIFTS FOR THE RESIDENTS, AND CALLED US WHEN THEY NEEDED HELP WITH FOOD AND/OR AN UNEXPECTED PROBLEM. OUR VERY ACTIVE AND COMMITTED BOARD MEMBERS HAVE BEEN ACTIVELY ENGAGED IN 3 MAJOR FUND RAISERS, AND GRANT WRITING TO ACT ON OUR GOAL OF ONGOING SUSTAINABILITY WHEN 3 SISTERS ON STAFF WILL NEED TO DECREASE AND END THEIR IN-KIND DONATION OF TIME PROJECTED AT $170,000 FOR THIS YEAR. OUR EFFORTS WITH FUND RAISING BROUGHT IN $90,000 AND MONETARY DONATIONS $50,000. IN KIND VOLUNTEER HOURS WAS $5,700. IN 2021 WE HIRED A FULL TIME RESIDENTIAL STAFF AND A PART TIME SECRETARY. IN 2021 WE DECREASED COVID RESTRICTIONS AND RESIDENTS MANAGERD TO AVOID CONTRACTING COVID. HOWEVER, 2 STAFF MEMBERS CONTRACTED COVID THROUGH FAMILY GATHERINGS. THEIR WORK TIME WAS COVERED BY THE REMAINING STAFF. ALL OF THE RESIDENTS SECURED FULL TIME JOBS. STAFF DOES CASE MANAGEMENT CONNECTING THE RESIDENTS WITH PHYSICIANS, COUNSELORS, LAWYERS, APPLICATIONS WITH SUBSIDIZED AND AFFORDABLE HOUSING, HELP WITH RESUMES AND JOB SEARCH, SUPERVISE THEIR HISET WORK, AND ENCOURAGE THEIR LEISURE INTERESTS. MANY FRIENDS OF ESTHER RESIDENCE DONATE CLOTHING FOR THE WOMEN, ITEMS FOR THIS RESIDENCE AND FOR THE WOMEN'S FUTURE HOMES.
