HEART'S SUCCESS IS EXHIBITED THROUGH ITS WORK IN MANY FACETS OF ANIMAL AND HUMAN WELFARE. HEART HAS PLAYED A SIGNIFICANT ROLE IN HELPING REDUCE HOMELESSNESS BY REMOVING CERTAIN BARRIERS WHICH EXIST WITH PET OWNERS WHO ARE EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS. OUR PROGRAMS ENABLE THESE HUMAN AND PET COMPANIONS TO REMAIN TOGETHER AND BEGIN ALONG A POSITIVE PATH WHILE TRANSITIONING INTO SHELTERS AND ULTIMATELY INTO HOUSING. HEART PROVIDES MEDICAL CARE, TRAINING, BOARDING, AND OTHER SERVICES FOR HOMELESS PETS AT NO CHARGE; PROVIDES LOW-COST PREVENTIVE HEALTHCARE FOR ALL OTHER PETS; PROVIDES RESCUE, REHABILITATION & ADOPTION SERVICES; AND BRINGS IMPORTANT ANIMAL & HUMAN WELFARE AWARENESS AND EDUCATION TO THE PUBLIC IN GENERAL. OVER THE PAST SEVERAL YEARS, HEART HAS SERVED THE NEEDS OF THOUSANDS OF PET OWNERS, FOCUSING ON UNDER-SERVED COMMUNITIES, THE ELDERLY, VETERANS, LOW- INCOME PET OWNERS AND OTHERS WHO HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO ATTAIN SERVICES ELSEWHERE. NOT ONLY DO THESE SERVICES HELP PROVIDE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR COMPANION ANIMALS, THEY HELP PROTECT PET OWNERS, WILDLIFE, AND THE PUBLIC AT LARGE. HEART HAS PLAYED A KEY ROLE IN REDUCING THE RISK OF TRANSMITTED DISEASES, REDUCING THE NUMBER OF ANIMAL-RELATED INJURIES, AND REDUCING THE NUMBER OF ABANDONED AND EUTHANIZED ANIMALS. HEART'S TEAM IS TRAINED, CERTIFIED, AND EXPERIENCED FIRST RESPONDERS WHO HAVE ASSISTED IN EMERGENCY SITUATIONS INVOLVING HOARDING AND RESCUE AND HAS DEPLOYED TO AREAS INVOLVING FIRES, OIL SPILLS, AND OTHER DISASTER-HIT AREAS. DUE TO FACILITY "LOCK-DOWNS- AND FOLLOWING CDC GUIDELINES, VARIOUS ORDINANCES, AND STRICT SELF-IMPLEMENTED SAFETY PROTOCOLS THROUGHOUT THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, HEART'S ABILITY TO PERFORM SEVERAL ASPECTS OF ITS SERVICES WAS LIMITED WHICH TEMPORARILY AFFECTED CERTAIN ASPECTS OF HEART'S USUAL GROWING NUMBER OF SERVICE RECIPIENTS. NEVERTHELESS, HEART CONTINUED TO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE TO HUNDREDS OF PET OWNERS AND WILL PASSIONATELY AND DILIGENTLY CONTINUE ITS WORK AND ITS MISSION TO SAVE LIVES.
