Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
MARTY'S PLACE SENIOR DOG SANCTUARY CARES FOR NEARLY 25 DOGS IN AN ENVIRONMENT THAT FOSTERS A HOME-LIKE ATMOSPHERE. THROUGH 2021, WE EFFECTIVELY MANAGED OUR OPERATION WITH THE CONTINUED BACKDROP OF COVID-19. WE MAINTAINED OUR CORE STAFF AND A STRONG GROUP OF DEDICATED VOLUNTEERS TO CARE FOR OUR RESIDENTS. OUR VOLUNTEER GROUP ASSISTS WITH A VARIETY OF TASKS TO HELP KEEP THE SANCTUARY RUNNING SMOOTHLY AND EFFECTIVELY. WE EXPANDED OUR SOCIAL MEDIA PRESENCE AND THROUGH MEDIA OPPORTUNITIES, WE WERE ABLE TO INCREASE AWARENESS OF OUR PROGRAMS AND PROVIDE EDUCATION ABOUT THE VALUE OF SENIOR PETS AND THE PLIGHT OF HOMELESS SENIOR DOGS. OUR SWIM PROGRAM INCLUDES AN UNDERWATER TREADMILL AND POOL. THIS PROGRAM CONTINUES TO BENEFIT OUR RESIDENTS AS SWIMMING AND THE TREADMILL ARE EFFECTIVE, LOW IMPACT EXERCISE. IT ALSO CONTINUES TO GROW FOR OUTSIDE CANINE CLIENTS THAT CAN BENEFIT FROM EXERCISE, WEIGHT LOSS, MENTAL STIMULATION OR CONTROLLED PHYSICAL ACTIVITY. IN 2021, MARTY'S PLACE HAS SAVED AND HELPED 31 NEW DOGS IN ADDITION TO CARING FOR LONG-TERM SANCTUARY RESIDENTS. WE EXPANDED OUR FOCUS BEYOND ADOPTION TO INCLUDE 2 NEW FOSTER PROGRAMS. OUR FIRST, LONG TERM FOSTERING, HAS PROVEN SUCCESSFUL IN THAT WE CAN HELP MORE SENIOR DOGS FIND NEW FAMILIES AND SIMULTANEOUSLY ALLOW MORE PEOPLE TO ENJOY THE COMPANIONSHIP OF A SENIOR DOG. A DOG WILL STAY IN A NEW FAMILY'S HOME FOR THEIR REMAINING YEARS, BUT MARTY'S PLACE CONTINUES TO COVER MOST EXPENSES, INCLUDING VET-CARE, MEDICATIONS, SPECIALIZED FOOD AND OTHER TAILORED SUPPLIES. TO BETTER SERVE FINANCIAL HARDSHIP SITUATIONS, WE STARTED FOSTER IN PLACE WHEREBY, A DOG STAYS IN A FAMILY'S HOME FOR THEIR REMAINING YEARS BUT MARTY'S PLACE ASSUMES MANY EXPENSES. SO NOW MORE THAN JUST HELPING VULNERABLE FAMILY'S RE-HOME THEIR DOG, WE ALSO SUPPORT THEM BY MAKING IT POSSIBLE FOR THEM TO KEEP THEIR FAMILY DOG AND ENJOY THEIR COMPANIONSHIP IN THEIR OWN HOME.
