FEAR 2 FREEDOM'S HOUR 2 EMPOWER IS A 60-90 MINUTE EVENT WHERE EDUCATION AND SERVICE MEET. THE FIRST HALF OF THE EVENT INCLUDES A SEXUAL VIOLENCE PREVENTION EDUCATIONAL PRESENTATION ON A VARIETY OF TOPICS SUCH AS: BYSTANDER INTERVENTION, TRAUMA INFORMED SUPPORT, SEXUAL VIOLENCE 101, INTIMATE PARTNER VIOLENCE, SUPPORTING SURVIVORS, DRUGS-ALCOHOL & SEXUAL VIOLENCE, AND CONSENT,. THE GOAL OF THE HOUR 2 EMPLOWER EVENT IS TO NOT ONLY EDUCATE, BUT TO EMPOWER STUDENTS AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO BE ACTIVE PARTICIPANTS IN CHANGING THE CULTURE OF SEXUAL VIOLENCE ON THEIR CAMPUSES, COMMUNITIES AND BEYOND.THE SECOND HALF OF F2F H2ES IS A SERVICE-LEARNING OPPORTUNITY WHERE PARTICIPANTS HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO PACK F2F AFTERCARE & ICARE KITS & WRITE A PERSONAL NOTE OF ENCOURAGEMENT FOR THE SV SURVIVOR WHO WILL RECEIVE THE KIT. F2F KIT-PACKING IMPACTS PARTICIPANTS ON A DEEPER LEVEL THAT MAKES ADVOCATING THE PREVENTION SEXUAL VIOLENCE AN IMPERATIVE REALITY. DURING JULY 2021 THROUGH JUNE 2022, PARTICIPANTS PACKED 2,203 F2F KITS AT 20 F2F EVENTS.
F2F KIT DISTRIBUTION PROGRAM PROVIDES COMPASSIONATE CARE KITS TO SURVIVORS OF SEXUAL VIOLENCE. AS A RESULT OF THE FORENSIC EXAM, A VICTIM'S CLOTHING IS TAKEN AS EVIDENCE. F2F AFTERCARE KITS PROVIDE CLEAN CLOTHING AND TOILETRIES TO MEET IMMEDIATE NEEDS ALONG WITH RESOURCES, COUNSELING TOOLS - INCLUDING F2F'S TRADEMARKED FREEDOM BEAR - AND A PERSONALIZED NOTE OF ENCOURAGEMENT FOR SURVIVORS OF ANY GENDER & AGE. F2F ICARE KITS SUPPORT SURVIVORS AFTER THE REPORTING WINDOW HAS CLOSED, AT ANY POINT IN THEIR HEALING JOURNEYS. THEY CONTAIN THERAPY TOOLS & RESOURCES, MINUS THE CLOTHING. F2F KITS IMPACT SURVIVORS THROUGH FORENSIC UNITS AT HOSPITALS, DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SHELTERS, WOMEN'S RESOURCE CENTERS & OTHER COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS.
FEAR 2 FREEDOM'S SHADOW EVENT IS AN IMMERSIVE, EMOTIONAL 90-MINUTE PRESENTATION CENTERED AROUND SURVIVOR STORIES AND HELD AT COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES. THE ANONYMOUS SURVIVORS ARE SILHOUETTED BEHIND A CURTAIN OR SCREEN AS THEY SHARE THEIR STORIES WITH AUDIENCE MEMBERS.THE FIRST-HAND ACCOUNTS ARE INCREDIBLY POWERFUL, NOT JUST FOR THE DESCRIPTION OF THE ASSAULT ITSELF, BUT ALSO FOR DETAILING LONG-TERM EFFECTS. ATTENDEES DISCOVER THE IMPACT OF THE ASSAULT ON THE SURVIVOR'S LIFE AS WELL AS ITS IMPACT ON THEIR FAMILY, FRIENDS, AND SOCIAL CIRCLE.THE SHADOW EVENT AGENDA ALSO ALLOWS ATTENDEES TO INTERACT WITH THESE SURVIVORS BY WRITING NOTES OF ENCOURAGEMENT AND SUPPORT THAT WILL BE GIVEN TO THE SHADOW PRESENTERS. STUDENTS WHO ATTEND THE SHADOW EVENT LEAVE WITH A GREATER UNDERSTANDING OF THE PERSONAL IMPACT OF SEXUAL VIOLENCE, INCREASED EMPATHY FOR SURVIVORS, AND AN INCREASED AWARENESS OF WHAT THEY CAN DO TO IMPROVE SAFETY IN THEIR COMMUNITIES.
