THE NORTH DAKOTA HUMANITIES COUNCIL INVESTS IN THE PEOPLE OF NORTH DAKOTA BY CREATING AND SUSTAINING HUMANITIES PROGRAMS THAT PROVIDE US WITH A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THE PAST, A BETTER ANALYSIS OF THE PRESENT, AND A BETTER VISION FOR THE FUTURE.

GAME CHANGER SERIES: PROGRAMS FEATURING NOTABLE SCHOLARS AND EXPERTS DISCUSSING CONTEMPORARY ISSUES USING A BALANCED, HUMANITIES-BASED APPROACH. PAST PROGRAMS HAVE DISCUSSED THE CONSTITUTIONAL PRINCIPLES, ETHNIC CULTURES, RACE, AND POLITICS. THE NDHC HOSTED 11 VIRTUAL PROGRAMS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR AND REACHED AN ESTIMATED AUDIENCE OF 965 PEOPLE
SHARP ACT GRANT PROGRAM: THE PURPOSE OF THE SHARP ACT GRANT PROGRAM IS TO PROVIDE GENERAL OPERATING SUPPORT TO CULTURAL ORGANIZATIONS WHOSE PROGRAMS HAVE BEEN ADVERSELY AFFECTED BY THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. THE GRANTS ARE MEANT TO HELP THESE ORGANIZATIONS MAINTAIN THEIR PUBLIC HUMANITIES PROGRAMS AND RETAIN THEIR CORE EMPLOYEES. TWENTY ONE ORGANIZATIONS RECEIVED FUNDS AND WERE ABLE TO SUSTAIN THEIR HUMANITIES PROGRAMS AS A RESULT OF THE SHARP ACT GRANT PROGRAM.
PUBLIC UNIVERSITY: ONLINE CLASSES ARE OFFERED TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC WHICH PROVIDE AN IN-DEPTH ANALYSIS AND DISCUSSION ON A WIDE-RANGE OF HUMANITIES TOPICS. IN THE PAST, THESE 6-WEEK CLASSES HAVE DISCUSSED THE U.S. CONSTITUTION, RACE IN AMERICAN LIFE, ETHICAL ISSUES, AND THE CHALLENGES FACING OUR DEMOCRACY. DURING THE PAST YEAR, THE NDHC HOSTED 16 CLASSES AND HAD A TOTAL ATTENDANCE OF 325 PEOPLE.
