THE NORTH DAKOTA HUMANITIES COUNCIL INVESTS IN THE PEOPLE OF NORTH DAKOTA BY CREATING AND SUSTAINING HUMANITIES PROGRAMS THAT PROVIDE US WITH A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THE PAST, A BETTER ANALYSIS OF THE PRESENT, AND A BETTER VISION FOR THE FUTURE.

SHARP ACT GRANT PROGRAM: THE PURPOSE OF THE SHARP ACT GRANT PROGRAM IS TO PROVIDE GENERAL OPERATING SUPPORT TO CULTURAL ORGANIZATIONS WHOSE PROGRAMS HAVE BEEN ADVERSELY AFFECT BY THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. THE GRANTS ARE MEANT TO HELP THESE ORGANIZATIONS MAINTAIN THEIR PUBLIC HUMANITIES PROGRAMS AND RETAIN THERE CORE EMPLOYEES. TWENTY ONE ORGANIZATIONS RECEIVED FUNDS AND WERE ABLE TO SUSTAIN THEIR HUMANITIES PROGRAMS AS A RESULT OF THE SHARP ACT GRANT PROGRAM.
BRAVE CONVERSATIONS: NAMED IN HONOR OF TRIBAL HISTORIAN MARILYN HUDSON, THE BRAVE CONVERSATIONS PROJECT (MHBCP) BUILDS COMMUNITY THROUGH CONVERSATION. TODAY'S LEADING PROBLEM-SOLVERS TAKE CENTER STAGE, OFFERING A THOUGHT-PROVOKING PRESENTATION FOLLOWED BY AUTHENTIC, MODERATOR-LED DISCUSSION IN SMALL GROUPS. ATTENDEES EXPLORE NEW IDEAS AND MEET INTERESTING PEOPLE. THE PROGRAM'S GOALS ARE TO EXPLORE CRITICAL ISSUES, FOSTER PHILOSOPHICAL CONVERSATIONS, INSPIRE INDIVIDUAL GROWTH, AND PROMOTE ACTIVE AND ENGAGED CITIZENSHIP. THE GOAL FOR ATTENDEES IS TO LEAVE FEELING RENEWED, HOPEFUL, AND MORE CONNECTED TO THEIR COMMUNITIES AND EACH OTHER. THIS PROGRAM IS OFFERED IN-PERSON AND LIVE-STREAMED ONLINE. NDHC HOSTED 2 IN PERSON EVENTS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR AND HAD A TOTAL AUDIENCE OF 794.
WE THE PEOPLE: THE WE THE PEOPLE THE CITIZEN AND THE CONSTITUTION PROGRAM (WTP) PROMOTES CIVIC COMPETENCE AND RESPONSIBILITY AMONG THE NATION'S UPPER ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY STUDENTS. THE CURRICULUM IS AN INNOVATIVE COURSE OF INSTRUCTION ON THE HISTORY AND PRINCIPLES OF THE UNITED STATES CONSTITUTIONAL DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC. THE WE THE PEOPLE PRINT TEXTBOOKS' INTERACTIVE STRATEGIES, RELEVANT CONTENT, AND SIMULATED CONGRESSIONAL HEARINGS MAKE TEACHING AND LEARNING EXCITING FOR STUDENTS AND TEACHERS. NDHC HOSTED ONE TEACHER INSTITUTE AND ONE STATE COMPETITION THAT REACHED AN ESTIMATE OF 220 STUDENTS.
