Part 3 - Line 1

Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
EXPENSES IN THIS CATEGORY RELATE TO THE SOCIETY'S SPONSORSHIP OF A BIENNIAL CONFERENCE, WHICH WE HOLD IN EVEN-NUMBERED YEARS. OUR 2020 CONFERENCE WAS TO BE HELD IN MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA, BUT IT WAS CANCELLED DUE TO COVID AND POSTPONED TO 2024. THE EXECUTIVE COUNCIL DECIDED TO RECOGNIZE STUDENTS AND POST-DOCS WHO HAD SUBMITTED EXCEPTIONALLY HIGH QUALITY ABSTRACTS IN PREPARATION FOR THE CONFERENCE, AND WE PROVIDED SMALL CASH AWARDS ($200 EACH) TO THEM. THE MAJOR EXPENDITURE IN THIS CATEGORY, HOWEVER, WAS THAT POSTPONEMENT OF THE CONFERENCE REQUIRED REWORKING OF SOME CONTRACTUAL AGREEMENTS THAT HAD BEEN MADE, AND THAT RESULTED IN $7841 SPENT ON LEGAL FEES.
EXPENSES AND REVENUE IN THIS CATEGORY ARE RELATED TO THE SOCIETY'S PUBLICATION OF A SCIENTIFIC JOURNAL, WHICH BRINGS IN MOST OF OUR REVENUE. OUR PROFIT SHARE FROM OXFORD UNIVERSITY PRESS WAS 176,632 IN 2021.
THE SOCIETY PUBLISHES A NEWSLETTER TWICE PER YEAR TO KEEP OUR MEMBERS INFORMED OF UPCOMING CONFERENCES AND ELECTIONS. IT ALSO PUBLISHES BOOK REVIEWS, SOCIETY OFFICER REPORTS, ANNUAL FINANCIAL REPORTS, AND OUR MEETING MINUTES.
