IT SHALL BE THE MISSION OF THIRD COAST PERCUSSION NFP:TO PRESENT CONCERTS OF CONTEMPORARY AND CLASSICAL REPERTOIRE IN BOTH TRADITIONAL CONCERT HALLS AND ALTERNATIVE VENUES, THEREBY ENRICHING AND ENTERTAINING THE BROADER PUBLIC AND PROMOTING NEW MUSIC AND THE ARTS TO A WIDER AUDIENCE;TO MAINTAIN AN ACTIVE INVOLVEMENT IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF NEW REPERTOIRE FOR PERCUSSION, COMMISSIONING AND COLLABORATING WITH LIVING COMPOSERS TO CREATE NEW MUSIC SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED FOR THE ENSEMBLE; ANDTO BE ACTIVE IN THE FIELD OF ARTS EDUCATION BY PRESENTING OUTREACH AND EDUCATIONAL CONCERTS TO PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOLS, EXPOSING YOUNGER GENERATIONS TO MUSIC AND THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE ARTS IN MODERN CULTURE AND SOCIETY, AND TO BE ACTIVE IN PRESENTING CLINICS AND MASTER-CLASSES TO STUDENTS AT MUSIC SCHOOLS, CONSERVATORIES AND UNIVERSITIES WITH THE GOAL OF EDUCATING FUTURE MUSIC PROFESSIONALS.

PERFORMANCE. THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC CONTINUED TO EFFECT PERFORMANCE ACTIVITY THROUGHOUT THE FISCAL YEAR, PARTICULARLY THE FIRST TWO QUARTERS. CERTAIN THIRD COAST PERCUSSION PERFORMANCES WERE PRESENTED VIA ONLINE PLATFORMS, EITHER LIVESTREAMED OR RECORDED FROM THEIR CHICAGO STUDIO. 30 TOTAL CONCERT PERFORMANCES WERE PRESENTED OF WHICH 27 WERE FOR LIVE AUDIENCES. PERFORMANCES OCCURRED IN 15 U.S. STATES AND ONE FOREIGN COUNTRY (FRANCE), THE FIRST INTERNATIONAL PERFORMANCE SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THE COVID PANDEMIC. THE ENSEMBLE RECEIVED THEIR 4TH AND 5TH GRAMMY NOMINATIONS FOR THEIR ALBUM "ARCHETYPES" INCLUDING THEIR FIRST NOMINATION FOR "BEST CONTEMPORARY CLASSICAL COMPOSITION AND RELEASED THEIR NEXT FULL-LENGTH ALBUM, "PERSPECTIVES".
YOUTH EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITIES. WHILE MANY EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITIES WERE PRESENTED VIA ONLINE PLATFORMS, AN EQUAL AMOUNT WERE PRESENTED AS LIVE, IN-PERSON ENGAGEMENTS, THE FIRST SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. THIRD COAST PERCUSSION PROVIDED OVER 80 EDUCATIONAL PERFORMANCES AND CLASSES TO K-12 SCHOOLS, COMMUNITY CENTERS, SENIOR CENTERS, AND COLLEGES/UNIVERSITIES THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY. THIRD COAST PERCUSSION CONTINUED THEIR CHICAGO-BASED EDUCATIONAL INITIATIVE "EMBARK" IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE PEOPLES MUSIC SCHOOL. THIRD COAST PERCUSSION'S STEAM (SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, ARTS, MATH) CURRICULA WERE PRESENTED IN BOTH ONLINE AND IN-PERSON INSTRUCTIONAL FORMATS IN PUBLIC SCHOOL AND INFORMAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY IN SUMMER, FALL, AND SPRING SESSIONS. THIRD COAST PERCUSSION SERVED AS DIRECTORS OF THE NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE DURING THEIR WINTER QUARTER OF 2022.
COMMISSIONING NEW WORKS. THIRD COAST PERCUSSION COMMISSIONED AND PREMIERED 5 NEW MUSICAL WORKS AND 5 NEW ARRANGEMENTS. THE ENSEMBLE COMPLETED ITS 8TH ANNUAL "CURRENTS CREATIVE PARTNERSHIP" A PROGRAM THAT SELECTS YOUNG MUSIC CREATORS FROM ACROSS THE WORLD TO COLLABORATE WITH THE ENSEMBLE IN CREATING NEW WORKS. THE MULTI-MOVEMENT WORK "ARCHETYPES", OF WHICH ALL WORKS WERE COMPOSED BY MEMBERS OF THE ENSEMBLE AND BRAZILIAN COMPOSERS SERGIO AND CLARICE ASSAD THE PREVIOUS YEAR, WAS NOMINATED FOR "BEST CONTEMPORARY CLASSICAL COMPOSITION" AT THE 2022 GRAMMY AWARDS.
