THIS AUXILLARY PROVIDES SUPPORT AND CARE, THROUGH VOLUNTEERS IN COLLABORATION WITH A LOCAL HOSPITAL, TO PERSONS WITH A TERMINAL ILLNESS. SERVICE IS PROVIDED TO KEEP THE PATIENT AT HOME AS LONG AS POSSIBLE, TO EDUCATE HEALTH PROFESSIONALS AND LAY PEOPLE, TO SUPPLEMENT EXISTING SERVICES, TO SUPPORT THE FAMILY AS A SINGLE UNIT OF CARE, AND TO HELP THE PATIENT TO LIVE AS FULLY AS POSSIBLE.

DURING THIS CALENDAR YEAR, HOPSICE OF KEOKUK COUNTY WAS ABLE TO PROVIDE THEIR SERVICES TO QUALIFYING PATIENTS TO ASSIST THEM AND THEIR FAMILIES IN MEETING THE TERMINALLY ILL PATIENTS' NEEDS. THOSE QUALIFYING MUST HAVE A TERMINAL ILLNESS, BE A RESIDENT OF KEOKUK COUNTY OR SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES, HAVE A PRIMARY CAREGIVER, AND REMAIN UNDER THE DIRECTION OF THE PATIENT'S FAMILY PHYSICIAN OR THE HOSPICE MEDICAL DIRECTOR, IF NEEDED.
