THE FOUNDATION PROVIDED GRANTS TO ORGANIZATIONS THAT FOCUS ON PROMOTING HEALTHY LIFESTYLES AND WELLNESS IN THE COMMUNITY. IN ADDITION, MONEY IS PROVIDED TO SOUTH CENTRAL COLLEGE TO AWARD AS SCHOLARSHIPS TO NURSING STUDENTS IN THEIR RESPECTIVE PROGRAMS.THE FOUNDATION PROVIDED SCHOLARSHIPS TO AREA MANKATO CLINIC EMPLOYEES WHO ARE STUDENTS STARTING OR ADVANCING HEALTH CARE EDUCATION PROGRAMS AT THE COLLEGE LEVEL. FIVE DIRECT SCHOLARSHIPS WERE AWARDED.
THE MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID IS A PROGRAM IN WHICH A CARE MANAGERS WHO IS CERTIFIED IN MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID TEACHES A CLASS TO LOCAL BUSINESSES AND ORGANIZATIONS ABOUT HOW TO HANDLE SITUATIONS IN WHICH SOMEONE IS DEALING WITH MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES IN THE WORK PLACE.
THE FOUNDATION ASSISTS WITH HEALTH EDUCATION PROJECTS INCLUDING EDUCARE, CAR SEAT SAFETY, AND IMPACT PROGRAM.EDUCARE IS A NON-PROFIT, PUBLIC ENTITY WHICH PROVIDES FINANCIAL SUPPORT TO MANKATO AREA PUBLIC SCHOOLS, BEYOND THE NORMAL OPERATING BUDGETS, FOR PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES THAT ENHANCE EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR ALL STUDENTS. THROUGH THIS FUNDING WE ENABLE TEACHERS TO EXPLORE NEW WAYS TO EXPAND A WORLD OF LEARNING FOR THEIR STUDENTS.THE CAR SEAT SAFETY PROGRAM PROVIDES ON-GOING, FREE OF CHARGE CAR SEAT SAFETY LESSONS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. THIS CLASS HELPS PARENTS AVOID MISTAKES THAT CAN PUT THEIR CHILDREN AT RISK. THE CLASSES ARE TAUGHT BY CERTIFIED NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRANSPORTATION SAFETY ADMINISTRATION TECHNICIANS. THIS PROGRAM SERVES 100 - 200 FAMILIES EACH YEAR. THE IMPACT PROGRAM PROVIDES SPECIAL SOFTWARE WHICH CAN EVALUATE POSSIBLE SPORTS RELATED HEAD INJURIES IN HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETES. THIS PROGRAM IS UTILIZED AT NINE SCHOOLS AND ONE YOUTH HOCKEY LEAGUE. THIS PROGRAM SERVES APPROXIMATELY 1,700 STUDENT ATHLETES PER YEAR.
