WALLEYE STOCKING PROGRAM AS PART OF AN ONGOING PROJECT TO IMPROVE THE FISHERIES IN POPE COUNTY, MN. MLA SUPPLEMENTS THE MINNESOTA DNR'S STOCKING PROGRAM AND HABITAT PROGRAM IN THIS ENDEAVOR. THE ORGANIZATION ALSO PROVIDES THE LEAD ROLE IN IDENTIFYING INVASIVE SPECIES AND WORKING WITH THE MINNESOTA DNR IN THE TREATMENT OF AFFECTED AREAS OF THE LAKE. THE ORGANIZATION ALSO TOOK ON THE "LETS GO FISHING" PROJECT. THIS PROJECT PROVIDES A PONTOON STAFFED BY VOLUNTEERS TO TAKE SENIOR CITIZENS OF OUR AREA OUT ON LAKE MINNEWASKA FOR FISHING, SIGHT SEEING AND RECREATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES. THE OUTINGS HAPPEN ONE TO TWO TIMES PER WEEK, WEATHER PERMITTING. AS PART OF THE LET'S GO FISHING ENDEAVOR, THE ORGANIZATION ACQUIRED THE PONTOON, MOTOR AND TRAILER FORMERLY OWNED BY THE LET'S GO FISHING ORGANIZATION, ALONG WITH ASSUMING THE DEBT ON THE EQUIPMENT. THIS ACTION WAS TAKEN TO ASSURE CONTINUATION OF THE PROGRAM ON LAKE MINNEWASKA. THE ORGANIZATION ALSO PARTICIPATES IN MONITORING AND CONTROLLING INVASIVE SPECIES AND WATER TESTING AND SAMPLING PROGRAMS AND IS INVOLVED IN ONGOING DISCUSSIONS INVOLVING INVASIVE SPECIES,SHORELINE EROSION AND WATER LEVEL ISSUES.
