PUBLIC MUSEUM VISITATION THE DOROTHY MOLTER MUSEUM PROVIDED LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES TO 5,883 VISITORS IN 2022 (75% ADULT, 25% YOUTH UNDER 18) VIA AN IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE TOURING AND EXPLORING CURATED EXHIBITS IN THREE, HISTORIC LOG CABINS THAT BELONGED TO DOROTHY MOLTER AN HISTORICAL ICON OF THE ELY AREA AND NORTHEASTERN MINNESOTA REGION. MUSEUM GUIDES PROVIDE PROGRAMMING THAT EMPHASIZES THE UNIQUENESS OF DOROTHYS LIFE: HOW SHE FORGED HER OWN PATH AND CHOSE TO MAKE A LIFE IN THE NORTHWOODS OF MN REGARDLESS OF SOCIETYS GENDER ROLE EXPECTATIONS, THE CHALLENGES SHE FACED YET PERSEVERED THROUGH AS THE 1964 WILDERNESS ACT CHANGED HER WAY OF LIFE, AND HOW SHE LIVED A QUALITY LIFE WITH INTEGRITY AND GENEROSITY.
EDUCATIONAL EVENTS & OPPORTUNITIES IN ORDER TO REACH A DIVERSE RANGE OF AUDIENCES, THE DOROTHY MOLTER MUSEUM OFFERS BOTH FEE-BASED AND NO-COST EDUCATIONAL OFFERINGS, AS WELL AS ACCOMMODATIONS. FEE-BASED EVENTS INCLUDE A SLATE OF ANNUAL PROGRAMS INCLUDING A FEBRUARY MUSEUM DINNER, A FULLY-OUTFITTED DOGSLED TO DOROTHYS ADVENTURE TRIP TO KNIFE LAKE IN MARCH, AND A FULLY-OUTFITTED WOMENS CANOE TRIP TO KNIFE LAKE IN JUNE. NO-COST EDUCATIONAL EVENTS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC INCLUDE MONTHLY MUSEUM OPEN HOUSES WITH SPECIAL GUESTS AND FAMILY ACTIVITIES IN JUNE, JULY AND AUGUST, AND SPONSORING THE CHILDRENS MARATHON VIA IN-KIND SERVICES AND PROGRAMMING TO PARTICIPATING STUDENT CLASSROOMS. THE MUSEUM ALSO OFFERS COMPLIMENTARY ADMISSION TO STAFF AT SEVERAL LOCAL EDUCATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS SUCH AS THE GIRL AND BOY SCOUT BASES AND THE OUTWARD BOUND SCHOOL WHERE COUNCILORS WILL BE SHARING BOUNDARY WATERS HISTORY INFORMATION TO PARTICIPANTS.
EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH IN 2022, THE DOROTHY MOLTER MUSEUM REACHED 145 STUDENTS K-12 AT NORTHEAST RANGE SCHOOL, ELY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AND CHERRY HIGH SCHOOL VIA NO-COST, IN-PERSON CLASSROOM PROGRAMS. ADDITIONALLY, FOUR, NO-COST ADULT PROGRAMS REACHED 82 INDIVIDUALS VIA THREE VIRTUAL (ZOOM) AND ONE OFF-SITE, IN-PERSON PROGRAMS. THESE PROGRAMS INCLUDED THEMES ON DOROTHY AS A YOUNG WOMAN IN A CHANGING WORLD, THE LIFE OF DOROTHY MOLTER, DOROTHY AND THE CREATION OF THE BOUNDARY WATERS, AND DOROTHY AS THE ROOT BEER LADY.
