CERTIFICATION REPRESENTS DEDICATION TO THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF PROFESSIONALISM IN PATIENT CARE. ABSM CERTIFICATION IS AN ADDED MEASURE OF EXPERTISE THAT PROVIDES A STANDARD OF EXCELLENCE BY WHICH THE PUBLIC AND MEMBERS OF GOVERNMENT AND REGULATORY BODIES CAN IDENTIFY SKILL, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCE.

THE AMERICAN BOARD OF SLEEP MEDICINE, ABSM, PROVIDES THE SLEEP TECHNOLOGIST REGISTRATION EXAMINATION. THE SLEEP TECHNOLOGIST REGISTRY EXAMINATION IS INTENDED TO CERTIFY THAT SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES HAVE THE MINIMUM COMPETENCIES REQUIRED TO EFFECTIVELY PERFORM THE JOB REQUIREMENTS FOR A SLEEP TECHNOLOGIST. THE RST CREDENTIAL IS A 5-YEAR CERTIFICATION AND RSTS MUST RECERTIFY EVERY FIVE YEARS OR RISK SUSPENSION OF THEIR RST CERTIFICATION. IN 2021, A TOTAL OF 70 CANDIDATES TOOK THE EXAM FOR INITIAL CERTIFICATION AND 572 CANDIDATES WERE GRANTED RECERTIFICATION.
