THE NORTHWOODS BATTERED WOMEN'S SHELTER (NBWS) HAS BEEN IN OPERATION SINCE 1978. IT IS OPEN 24 HOURS A DAY, EVERY DAY OF THE YEAR. OUR SERVICES INCLUDE SHELTER FOR UP TO 12 RESIDENTS AT A TIME, A HOTEL PROGRAM FOR SHORT-TERM SAFE HOUSING, 24-HOUR CRISIS INTERVENTION CALL SERVICES, AND WEEKLY SUPPORT MEETINGS FOR RESIDENTS AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS. AN ADVOCATE IS ALWAYS ON DUTY, AND IS AVAILABLE TO HELP VICTIMS, AND THEIR FAMILIES, WITH ISSUES AND CONCERNS REGARDING HOUSING, FINANCES, EDUCATION, HEALTH, TRANSPORTATION, AND MANY OTHERS, AS REQUESTED BY THE CLIENT. IN ADDITION, AN ON-SITE MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELOR IS AVAILABLE AT NO COST. IN 2021, 590 INDIVIDUALS RECEIVED AT LEAST ONE SERVICE FROM NBWS. 355 OF THE INDIVIDUALS SERVED RECEIVED SHELTER/HOUSING SERVICES; 290 ADULTS(SOME INDIVIDUALS WERE ALREADY IN SHELTER AT THE BEGINNING OF THE CALENDAR YEAR) AND CHILDREN RECEIVED SHELTER OR SAFE HOUSING FOR 3,163 NIGHTS. NBWS PROVIDED 2,213 INFORMATION AND REFERRAL SERVICES; 5,117 PERSONAL ADVOCACY/ACCOMPANIMENT SERVICES; 23,051 EMOTIONAL SUPPORT OR SAFETY SERVICES; 1,241 RELOCATION ASSISTANCE SERVICES PROVIDED; AND 307 CRIMINAL/CIVIL JUSTICE SYSTEM ASSISTANCE SERVICES. 35,092 TOTAL SERVICES PROVIDED.
