MEMBERSHIP SERVICES IN 2021:AN AVERAGE OF 2,572 PEOPLE WERE ACTIVE NCFR MEMBERS AT A GIVEN TIME. NCFR MEMBERS HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE IN ONE OR MORE OF NCFR'S 10 SECTIONS AND 27 FOCUS GROUPS, WHICH ARE INTERNAL TOPIC INTEREST GROUPS FOR DISCUSSION AND NETWORKING. NCFR SUPPORTED 10 STATE AND REGIONAL-LEVEL AFFILIATES, OR LOCAL CHAPTERS, AS WELL AS 26 STUDENT AFFILIATES AT UNIVERSITIES. NCFR HONORS AWARD WAS GRANTED TO 59 GRADUATING STUDENTS IN 2021 AND OVER 50 INDIVIDUALS WERE GIVEN AWARDS AT THE 2021 NCFR ANNUAL CONFERENCE. NCFR ALSO HELPED FACILITATE THE REVIEW OF 138 CVS/RESUMES TO HELP MEMBERS WITH CAREER DEVELOPMENT AND ADVANCEMENT.NCFR ALSO OFFERED THE STUDENT ACCESS GRANT FOR A SECOND YEAR WHICH SUPPORTED REGISTRATION FEES AND ONE YEAR OF MEMBERSHIP FOR THE 2021 NCFR ANNUAL CONFERENCE FOR STUDENT MEMBERS FROM HISTORICALLY MARGINALIZED RACIAL OR ETHNIC POPULATIONS. FOR A SECOND YEAR, NCFR AND DAVID H. OLSON, PH.D., WERE PROUD TO SPONSOR THE $10,000 NCFR OLSON GRANT: BRIDGING RESEARCH, THEORY, AND PRACTICE. IN RESPONSE TO THE PANDEMIC, NCFR CONTINUED A PROGRAM CALLED WRITING WEDNESDAY'S, WHICH IS A VIRTUAL MEETING FOR STUDENTS AND NEW PROFESSIONALS TO HELP INCREASE PRODUCTIVITY, ACCOUNTABILITY, AND BRAINSTORM NEW IDEAS.


INFORMATION DISSEMINATION IN 2021: NCFR CREATED AND PUBLISHED THREE POLICY BRIEFS IN 2021 TITLED TRANSFORMING CHILD WELFARE: PRIORITIZING PREVENTION, RACIAL EQUITY, AND ADVANCING CHILD AND FAMILY WELL-BEING, A FAMILY HEALTH IMPACT ANALYSIS OF CURRENT UNITED STATES GUN POLICY, AND AN UPDATE TO A PREVIOUSLY RELEASED BRIEF, LBGTQ+ PARENTS AND THEIR CHILDREN (2021). THE NCFR WEBSITE PROVIDES CURATED RESOURCES TO DISSEMINATE NCFR'S POLICY-RELATED ACTIVITIES, AND A DESCRIPTION OF NCFR'S POLICY-RELATED ACTIVITIES. ADDITIONAL RESEARCH AND POLICY BRIEFS WERE IN PRODUCTION AT THE END OF 2021. NCFR PUBLISHED FIVE ISSUES OF ITS FLAGSHIP SCHOLARLY JOURNAL, JOURNAL OF MARRIAGE AND FAMILY, IN 2021, AS WELL AS FIVE ISSUES OF ITS JOURNAL FAMILY RELATIONS: INTERDISCIPLINARY JOURNAL OF APPLIED FAMILY SCIENCE AND FOUR ISSUES OF ITS JOURNAL OF FAMILY THEORY & REVIEW. THESE ISSUES WERE PROVIDED TO ROUGHLY 2,559 ACTIVE MEMBERS IN 2021. IN 2020, ARTICLES WERE DOWNLOADED 637 MILLION TIMES, IN MORE THAN 17,000 INSTITUTIONS IN MORE THAN 245 COUNTRIES AND TERRITORIES. DATA FOR 2021 IS YET TO BE RECEIVED.NCFR CREATED FOUR RESOURCE COLLECTIONS IN 2021: RESOURCES TO DISMANTLE RACISM AGAINST THE ASIAN AMERICAN COMMUNITY; HOW TO DISCUSS RACIAL DISCRIMINATION IN SOCIETY; TRANSGENDER INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES RESOURCES; AND YOUR TOOLKIT TO PROMOTE FAMILY SCIENCE. ADDITIONAL RESOURCES ARE CONTINUOUSLY BEING ADDED TO PREVIOUS RESOURCE COLLECTIONS. RESOURCE COLLECTIONS ARE A METHOD TO DISSEMINATE RESEARCH SUCH AS NCFR JOURNAL ARTICLES, WEBINARS, CONFERENCE RECORDINGS, ARTICLES FROM NCFR REPORT AND CFLE NETWORK, AND OCCASIONALLY OUTSIDE RESOURCES. MEMBERS WERE ALSO ENCOURAGED TO PARTICIPATE IN EDUCATIONAL DISCUSSIONS RELATED TO ADVANCING FAMILY THEORY THROUGH NCFR'S NEW DISCUSSION TIME THEORY THURSDAY. NCFR PUBLISHED, COMMUNICATED, AND ENCOURAGED CONSTITUENTS TO SHARE NEW INFORMATION EXPLAINING THE DISCIPLINE OF FAMILY SCIENCE, THE ACADEMIC DISCIPLINE THAT IS AT NCFR'S CORE. NCFR CONTINUED TO PROMOTE A COLLECTION OF RESOURCES ADVOCATING FOR USE OF THE NAME "FAMILY SCIENCE" FOR UNIVERSITY AND COLLEGE PROGRAMS - LETTER OF SUPPORT, NARRATIVE FACT SHEET, DATA-DRIVEN FACT SHEET, BIBLIOGRAPHY, AND SAMPLE RATIONALE TEXT - TO HELP AT LEAST SIX ADDITIONAL ACADEMIC UNITS MAKE NAME CHANGES IN 2021, WITH SEVERAL MORE UNIVERSITIES WORKING TOWARD CHANGES IN 2022. NCFR ALSO PRODUCED AND PROMOTED A NEW ONLINE HUB WITH INFORMATION FOR EXPLORING CAREERS IN FAMILY SCIENCE, AN ONLINE TOOLKIT OF PROMOTIONAL RESOURCES FOR ANYONE TO USE TO PROMOTE FAMILY SCIENCE, AND A NEW "FAMILY SCIENCE IMPACT" ARTICLE FEATURE HIGHLIGHTING THE FAMILY SCIENCE CAREER AND IMPACT MADE BY AN NCFR MEMBER IN EACH ISSUE OF NCFR'S QUARTERLY MEMBER MAGAZINE. NCFR ALSO PUBLISHED FOUR ISSUES EACH OF ITS NCFR REPORT MEMBER MAGAZINE AND CFLE NETWORK NEWSLETTER, WHICH CONTAIN EDUCATIONAL ARTICLES FOR MEMBERS AND CFLES PERTAINING TO THEIR PROFESSIONAL INTEREST AREAS. NCFR'S WEEKLY EMAIL NEWSLETTER ALSO PROVIDES ANNOUNCEMENTS ABOUT EDUCATIONAL AND PROFESSIONAL OPPORTUNITIES IN THE FAMILY FIELD.


EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES 2021:NCFR HELD ITS SECOND VIRTUAL CONFERENCE IN RESPONSE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. OVER 1,200 PEOPLE ATTENDED THE FOUR-DAY NCFR ANNUAL CONFERENCE. THE CONFERENCE INCLUDED ONE PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOP (THEORY CONSTRUCTION AND RESEARCH METHODOLOGY). BOARD AND COMMITTEE MEETINGS WERE SCHEDULED THE WEEK PRIOR TO THE CONFERENCE WEEK ALLOWING PARTICIPANTS TO FOCUS ON EDUCATIONAL SESSIONS. NEW TO 2021 WAS HAVING ONLINE INTERACTIVE POSTER SESSIONS THAT OFFSET THE TRADITIONAL IN-PERSON POSTER SESSIONS. 2021 ALSO MARKED THE FIRST NCFR VIRTUAL FLE SUMMIT. THIS EVENT WAS DESIGNED SPECIFICALLY FOR FAMILY LIFE EDUCATION PRACTITIONERS. IT INCLUDED A PLENARY AND 9 SESSIONS AND DREW 170 PAID ATTENDEES.IN 2021, AN AVERAGE OF 1488 PEOPLE HELD THE CERTIFIED FAMILY LIFE EDUCATOR (CFLE) CREDENTIAL. TWO NEW ACADEMIC FAMILY SCIENCE PROGRAMS RECEIVED FIRST-TIME APPROVAL FOR INCLUDING COURSEWORK THAT MEETS CFLE STANDARDS. TWENTY-THREE PROGRAMS WERE RENEWED, BRINGING THE TOTAL TO 140 PROGRAMS AT THE END OF 2021.


THE FAMILY LIFE EDUCATION ASSESSMENT EXAM WAS ADMINISTERED BY FOUR FAMILY SCIENCE PROGRAMS TO A TOTAL OF 44 STUDENTS. NCFR'S DEGREE PROGRAMS GUIDE IS A CURATED LIST OF ALL FAMILY SCIENCE ACADEMIC DEGREE PROGRAMS AND DEPARTMENTS IN THE UNITED STATES FOR POTENTIAL STUDENTS AND THOSE LOOKING FOR EMPLOYMENT.
