ASCENSION ST. MICHAEL'S HOSPITAL FOUNDATION, INC. SERVES AS THE PHILANTHROPIC ARM OF THE HOSPITAL AND OBTAINS FINANCIAL SUPPORT FROM RAISING PRIVATE DONATIONS TO FUND HEALTHCARE NEEDS WITHIN ASCENSION ST. MICHAEL'S HOSPITAL AND CLINICS. ON AN ANNUAL BASIS, THE FOUNDATION HOSTS FUNDRAISING EVENTS, INITIATES CAMPAIGNS AND DIRECT MAIL SOLICITATIONS, AND WORKS WITH LOCAL CORPORATE PARTNERS TO RAISE FUNDS. IN OUR EFFORTS TO SUPPORT INPATIENT AND OUTPATIENT CARE AT ASCENSION ST. MICHAEL'S, THE FOUNDATION IDENTIFIES FUNDRAISING PRIORITIES DESIGNED TO ENHANCE SERVICES LINE PROGRAMMING AND ADDRESS UNIQUE HEALTHCARE NEEDS OF PORTAGE COUNTY. AS PART OF THE ASCENSION CATHOLIC HEALTH MINISTRY, THE FILING ORGANIZATION SERVED IN SUPPORT OF ASCENSION'S COMMITMENT TO BOTH CARE FOR PATIENTS AND COMMUNITIES AND SUPPORT CAREGIVERS AND OTHER ASSOCIATES THROUGH THE CHALLENGES OF THE COVID-19 GLOBAL PANDEMIC IN FY21.
ONCOLOGY WHEN ST. MICHAEL'S HOSPITAL OPENED THE DOORS AT THE CANCER CENTER FOR MEDICAL ONCOLOGY AND RADIATION ONCOLOGY SERVICES IN 1999, THE FOUNDATION CREATED THE FIRST WIG GIFTING PROGRAM DESIGNED TO SUPPORT PATIENTS EXPERIENCING HAIR LOSS FROM TREATMENT. SINCE THEN, THE PROGRAM HAS EVOLVED INTO THE FOUNDATION'S ONCOLOGY FUND WHICH SUPPORTS PROGRAMS, SERVICES AND INITIATIVES TO BENEFIT THE LIVES OF CANCER PATIENTS, SUCH AS: WIGS, HATS, GAS CARDS, BLANKETS, EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS AND SERVICES THAT IMPROVE PATIENT EXPERIENCE. IN FEBRUARY OF 2017, THE CANCER CENTER BECAME A FULLY INTEGRATED ASCENSION DEPARTMENT AT ST. MICHAEL'S HOSPITAL AND BRINGS TOGETHER A DIVERSE TEAM OF EXPERIENCED DOCTORS, INCLUDING SURGEONS AND ONCOLOGISTS. THEY ARE COMMITTED TO HELPING PATIENTS UNDERSTAND THEIR PARTICULAR TYPE OF CANCER AND HOW IT CAN BE TREATED, WHILE CREATING A CUSTOMIZED CARE PLAN.
BEHAVIORAL HEALTH PORTAGE COUNTY, LIKE MANY COMMUNITIES, STRUGGLE WITH MENTAL WELLNESS, WHILE RECOGNIZING HOW ESSENTIAL MENTAL HEALTH IS TO PERSONAL WELL-BEING, FAMILY AND INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS. IT IMPACTS HOW WE AS INDIVIDUALS ENGAGE OR CONTRIBUTE TO OUR COMMUNITY AND OUR SOCIETY. THE FOUNDATION CREATED THE BEHAVIORAL HEALTH FUND TO SUPPORT ASCENSION ST. MICHAEL'S COMMITMENT TO TREATING BOTH BODY AND MIND. THE FUND SUPPORTS MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS AND SUICIDE PREVENTION, PROVIDES RESOURCES AND FUNDS FOR PROJECTS AND PROGRAMS THAT OFFER EFFECTIVE TREATMENT, AND SUPPORTS ASCENSION BEHAVIORAL AND MENTAL HEALTH SPECILATY CARE. ASCENSION ST. MICHAEL'S OFFERS INPATIENT, OUTPATIENT, AND AFTERCARE TREATMENT PROGRAMS FOR ALL AGES.
