TO EXPAND THE AUDIENCE FOR CONTEMPORARY DANCE THROUGH PERFORMANCE AND EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS IN THE GREATER MILWAUKEE AREA AND THROUGHOUT SOUTHEASTERN WISCONSIN, REACHING DIVERSE COMMUNITIES.

WILD SPACE PRODUCED FOUR MAJOR LIVE PERFORMANCES FOR ITS 2022-2023 SEASON, WHICH GARNERD CRITICAL ACCLAIM AND HAD CAPACITY AUDIENCES. INSITE'S THREE COMMUNITY/NEIGHBORHOOD PERFORMANCES FEATURED 5 CHOREOGRAPHERS OF COLOR AND WERE OFFERED FREE-OF-CHARGE TO THE MILWAUKEE COMMUNITY. THE PROGRAM SERVED 37 PAID ARTISTS/PRODUCTION STAFF, 1,024 PATRONS (465 ATTENDED INSITE, WHICH WAS OFFERED FREE-OF-CHARGE) AND AN ADDITIONAL 33 PEOPLE WHO VIEWED OPEN REHEARSALS.


WILD SPACE EMPLOYED 10 TEACHING ARTISTS AND SERVED A TOTAL OF 567 MILWAUKEE PUBLIC SCHOOLS CHILDREN IN 14 CLASSROOMS AT 10 MPS SCHOOL SITES, PLUS AN ADDITIONAL 235 FAMILIES WHO ATTENDED PERFORMANCES. OUTREACH/EDUCATION PARTNERSHIPS INCLUDED THE KENNEDY CENTER TURNAROUND ARTS PROGRAM IN MPS, MILWAUKEE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA ARTS IN COMMUNITY EDUCATION (ACE), MPS COMMUNITY LEARNING CENTERS (CLCS), AND A LONGSTANDING RESIDENCY WITH LINCOLN CENTER MIDDLE SCHOOL OF THE ARTS.


DIVERSIY AND INCLUSION ARE CRITICAL COMPONENTS FOR ALL COMPANY PROGRAMS. SOCIOLOGIST/TEACHER/DANCER VICTORIA ISAAC WAS CONTRACTED TO TRAIN BOARD, STAFF AND TEACHING ARTISTS IN CULTURALLY RESPONSIVE TEACHING AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT PRACTICES. THIRTY-SEVEN PERCENT OF PERFORMING ARTISTS (14) WERE PEOPLE OF COLOR, AND 50% OF TEACHING ARTISTS (5) WERE PEOPLE OF COLOR. FOR THE INSITE: CHOREOGRAPHIC EXCHANGE INITIATIVE, 15 ARTISTS WERE HIRED, AND 67% WERE BIPOC. 472 PEOPLE ATTENDED, WITH 20% BEING BIPOC AND 75% FROM THE CITY OF MILWAUKEE.
