COMMUNITY SERVICES INCLUDE PROGRAM ACTIVITIES OF COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS, INTERGENERATIONAL, GROUP PROJECTS/HOMEWORKERS, DANE COUNTY TRIAD, AND FOSTER GRANDPARENTS. THIS YEAR 550 VOLUNTEERS SERVED IN 63 NONPROFIT AND PUBLIC AGENCIES AND SCHOOLS.COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS IS A CLEARING HOUSE FOR VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES GEARED TOWARDS ADULTS AGE 55 AND OLDER. PERSONAL PLACEMENT ENSURES THAT VOLUNTEERS ARE MATCHED TO OPPORTUNITIES THAT MAKE USE OF THEIR TALENTS AND INTERESTS AND FIT EASILY INTO THE VOLUNTEERS' SCHEDULES. RSVP'S INTERGENERATIONAL PROGRAM ENCOURAGES SENIORS TO INTERACT WITH CHILDREN OF ALL AGES ACROSS DANE COUNTY. VOLUNTEERS SERVE IN SCHOOLS AND LOCAL NEIGHBORHOOD CENTERS AS READING OR MATH TUTORS, HELP WITH SPECIAL PROJECTS, OR AS COMPUTER BUDDIES.GROUP PROJECTS/HOMEWORKER VOLUNTEERS MEET IN GROUPS OR WORK AT HOME TO RECYCLE DONATED MATERIALS MAKING HANDMADE ITEMS THAT BENEFIT FAMILIES AND INDIVIDUALS IN NEED. NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS, SOCIAL SERVICE AGENCIES, AND SCHOOLS DISTRIBUTE THESE ITEMS TO THEIR CLIENTS.RSVP SPONSORS DANE COUNTY TRIAD AND ASSISTS COMMUNITIES IN FORMING THEIR OWN LOCAL TRIADS TO PROVIDE INFORMATION AND PROGRAMS TO PREVENT THE CRIMINAL VICTIMIZATION OF OLDER ADULTS. A YEARLY CONFERENCE IS HELD WITH SPEAKERS ON CRIME PREVENTION AND SAFETY.RSVP SPONSORS A FOSTER GRANDPARENTS PROGRAM THAT PROVIDES STIPENDS FOR LOW INCOME VOLUNTEERS WHO SERVE. FOSTER GRANDPARENTS WORK WITH CHILDREN IN DANE COUNTY SCHOOLS, HEAD START, AND NEIGHBORHOOD CENTERS HELPING THEM WITH READING, WRITING, MATH, AND DEMONSTRATING HOW TO BE SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS.
DRIVER SERVICES --- RSVP RECRUITS VOLUNTEER DRIVERS TO USE THEIR OWN VEHICLES TO PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION TO ELDERLY AND/OR HANDICAPPED RESIDENTS OF DANE COUNTY AND HOME DELIVERED MEALS TO HOMEBOUND ELDERLY OUTSIDE THE CITY OF MADISON. THIS PROGRAM HELPED 2,667 OLDER ADULTS AND VETERANS OF ALL AGES MAINTAIN THEIR INDEPENDENCE BY PROVIDING 1,841 RIDES AND DELIVERING 144,731 MEALS. THROUGH RSVP'S VETS HELPING VETS PROGRAM, VETERANS ARE RECRUITED AS VOLUNTEER DRIVERS TO SERVE VETERANS AND THEIR FAMILY MEMBERS. VETERANS WHO ARE UNABLE TO DRIVE CAN RECEIVE A RIDE FROM A FELLOW VETERAN VOLUNTEER DRIVER WHO UNDERSTANDS SOME OF THE PROBLEMS THAT YOUNGER VETERANS ARE FACING. 477 UNDUPLICATED VOLUNTEERS SERVED IN THIS PROGRAM DURING THE YEAR.
