THE PURPOSE IS TO MAINTAIN AND OPERATE A MUSEUM AND HISTORICAL ORGANIZATION PERPETUATING THE MEMORY AND HISTORY OF RAILROADING, INCLUDING THE PEOPLE, EQUIPMENT & GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATIONS THEREIN INVOLVED, AND TO ENGAGE IN, ASSIST AND ENDOW SUCH LITERARY & EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES AND UNDERTAKINGS AS WILL AID AND ABET IN PRESERVING SAID MEMORY AND HISTORY.

TO EDUCATE THE PUBLIC BY OFFERING EDUCATIONAL DEMONSTRATION RIDES FOR MUSEUM VISITORS, OFFERING SPECIAL EVENTS CENTERED ON HISTORIC AND SEASONAL THEMES, HOSTING GUIDED TOURS OF RESTORED RAILCARS AND OPEN HOUSES SHOWCASING ONGOING RESTORATION PROJECTS, AND OTHER LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES THAT THE SOCIETY PROVIDES. THE SOCIETY CONTINUED ITS PROGRAM SERVICES BY OFFERING EDUCATIONAL DEMONSTRATION RIDES FOR MUSEUM VISITORS IN ITS VINTAGE RAILROAD EQUIPMENT, PROVIDING TOURS THROUGH HISTORIC RAILROAD EQUIPMENT THAT HAS BEEN RESTORED OR IS UNDERGOING RESTORATION, ENTERTAINING REQUESTS FOR PRESENTATIONS TO AREA COMMUNITY CLUBS AND SCHOOLS, PROVIDING OPPORTUNITIES TO LEARN HISTORIC RAILROAD OPERATING AND MAINTENANCE PRACTICES THROUGH ITS VOLUNTEER TRAINING PROGRAMS, AND THE PUBLISHING OF A MEMBER MAGAZINE, NEWSLETTER, AND ANNUAL CALENDAR. OUTREACH ALSO OCCURS DIGITALLY, THROUGH THE SHARING OF RAILROAD HISTORICAL AND TECHNICAL INFORMATION VIA RESTORATION BLOGS AND OTHER SUCH METHODS, DISTRIBUTED TO WEBSITE, EMAIL, AND SOCIAL MEDIA AUDIENCES. MAJOR DEVELOPMENTS IN 2022-2023 INCLUDED SIGNIFICANT IMPROVEMENTS TO THE ORGANIZATION'S RAILROAD INFRASTRUCTURE. THE RAILROAD TRACK IS A VITAL COMPONENT OF THE MUSEUM'S ABILITY TO OFFER DEMONSTRATION TRAIN RIDES TO THE PUBLIC USING ITS COLLECTION OF HISTORIC RAIL CARS AND LOCOMOTIVES. THERE WAS ALSO A GREAT DEAL OF PROGRESS ON OVERHAULING OR RESTORING A 1907 STEAM LOCOMOTIVE, A 1914 COMMUTER CAR, A 1924 WOODEN CABOOSE, ONE OF THE NATION'S OLDEST AND MOST INTACT WOODEN SLEEPING CARS, AND THE SOLE REMAINING GEARED LOCOMOTIVE TO HAVE OPERATED IN THE STATE OF WISCONSIN. RESTORATION WORK ALSO BEGAN ON THE OLDEST AND MOST INTACT GAS-ELECTRIC MOTOR CAR PRODUCED BY THE ELECTRO-MOTIVE CORPORATION. LASTLY, THE ORGANIZATION CELEBRATED ITS 60TH ANNIVERSARY WITH SPECIAL EXHIBIT AND TOURS.
