DRUMS UP GUNS DOWN WAS DESIGNED TO HELP ADDRESS THE CYCLE OF GUN VIOLENCE IN OUR COMMUNITIES IN KNOXVILLE, TENNESSEE. IT TEACHES STUDENTS, K-12, ABOUT THE HISTORY, ART, AND SPIRITUAL ASSOCIATIONS WITH AFRICAN DRUMS AND HOW TO BUILD, MAINTAIN, AND PLAY THESE INSTRUMENTS.
EAST TENNESSEE FREEDOM SCHOOLS IS AN EIGHT-TO-NINE WEEK SUMMER READING PROGRAM FOR 120 STUDENTS, K-8, DESIGNED TO SERVE UNDER-REPRESENTATIVE COMMUNITIES USING MATERIALS AND CURRICULUM FROM CHILDREN'S DEFENSE FUND FREEDOM SCHOOLS PROGRAM.
