DURING THE YEAR, WE WORKED WITH COMMUNITIES IN MICHIGAN TO FOSTER AND SUPPORT COMMUNITY-WIDE PLANNING EFFORTS THAT LEAD TO THE ADOPTION OF SIGNIFICANT REVISIONS TO EXISTING MASTER PLANS TO PROMOTE COMMUNITY RESILIENCE IN THE FACE OF RAPID ECONOMIC CHANGES AND INCREASING CLIMATE VARIABILITY. WE ARE WORKING WITH COMMUNITIES ALONG THE COASTLINE OF LAKE MICHIGAN AND HURON TO STUDY THE POTENTIAL IMPACTS OF CLIMATE VARIABILITY, LAKE LEVELS AND SHORELINE DYNAMICS ALONG LAKE MICHIGAN. AS PART OF OUR MISSION, LIAA PROVIDES PLANNING SERVICES, TECHNICAL SUPPORT, LEADERSHIP TRAINING AND FACILITATION SERVICES TO OTHER NONPROFITS AND MANY LOCAL UNITS OF GOVERNMENT. WE ALSO PROVIDE WEB SITE DESIGN, DEVELOPMENT AND OR/HOSTING SERVICES TO OVER 50 GOVERNMENTAL UNITS AND NONPROFITS. WE PROVIDE THE EXECUTIVE MANAGEMENT SERVICES TO THE CITY OF TRAVERSE CITY AND CHARTER TOWNSHIP OF GARFIELD RECREATIONAL AUTHORITY.
TRAVERSE AREA COMMUNITY MEDIA (FORMERLY,UPNORTH MEDIA CENTER) EXISTS TO SUPPORT PARTICIPATION IN THE CREATION, PRODUCTION & DISTRIBUTION OF AUDIO AND VIDEO MEDIA, WHICH PROMOTES AND CELEBRATES LOCAL ACHIEVEMENTS, COMMUNITY EDUCATION, CIVIC ENGAGEMENT, LOCAL CULTURE & ART APPRECIATION AND INDIVIDUAL EXPRESSION. THE MEDIA CENTER PROVIDES PUBLIC EDUCATION CLASSES IN VIDEO PRODUCTION & TECHNICAL SUPPORT & CABLECAST SERVICES TO CITIZENS, LOCAL GOVERMENTS & NON-PROFITS IN THE 11 COUNTY VIEWING AREA OF THE PUBLIC ACCESS TELEVISION STATIONS - UPNORTH 189 AND GOVT 191. CITIZENS ARE ENCOURAGED TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS NON-COMMERCIAL COMMUNICATIONS MEDIUM TO EXPRESS THEMSELVES & CELEBRATE THEIR COMMUNITIES. CURRENTLY, WE HAVE ABOUT 600 REGISTERED VOLUNTEER PRODUCERS. ADDITIONALLY, 6 NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS ARE MEMBERS.
