VALUING INDIVIDUALS AND BUILDING COMMUNITY IN SOUTHWESTERN KENT COUNTY BY PROVIDING FOOD, MATERIALS AND EDUCATION ASSISTANCE TO MEET BASIC NEEDS, IMPROVE QUALITY OF LIFE AND PROMOTE SELF-SUFFICIENCY.

THROUGHOUT 2021, UCOMS PANTRY PROVIDED CONTINUOUS SERVICE EITHER THROUGH IN PERSON SHOPPING OR CURBSIDE PICKUP TO 3,653 UNIQUE INDIVIDUALS. DESPITE THE CHALLENGES OF COVID, HEALTHFUL NUTRITIOUS GROCERIES WERE PROVIDED TO 16,941 INDIVIDUALS. MANY FAMILIES SHOP MORE THAN ONE TIME A YEAR WITH THE AVERGAGE BEING 3 SERVICES PER YEAR. THIS REPRESENTS ENOUGH GROCERIES TO MAKE 355,761 MEALS. FARM TO PANTRY PROGRAM WITH MICHIGAN FITNESS FOUNDATION WHERE A GROUP OF 30 FAMILIES MEET WEEKLY FOR 16 WEEKS TO LEARN ABOUT NUTRITION, COOKING, AND PRESERVING TECHNIQUES. PARTICIPANTS RECEIVE A WEEKLY PORTION OF COMMUNITY SUPPORTED AGRICULTURE (CSA) PRODUCE THAT IS HARVESTED ON A LOCAL FARM.
THE WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM BECAME BEST FOOT FORWARD IN THE FALL OF 2021. THE PROGRAM SERVED ___ UNIQUE PARTICIPANTS, DELIVERING MORE THAN _____ SERVICE ENCOUNTERS. A SIGNIFICANT SHIFT IN SERVICE DURING 2021 WAS TO ASSIST CLIENTS WITH THEIR UNEMPLOYMENT FILINGS AND FOLLOW UPS. THIS SERVICE ALLOWED PARTICPANTS TO STAY CONNECTED TO UCOM DURING THEIR INACTIVE WORK PERIOD AND HELPED TO COACH PARTICIPANTS IN POST-COVID CAREER GOALS.
THE FINANCIAL LITERACY PROGRAM AT UCOM HELD ___ BASIC BUDGETING WORKSHOPS AND 1 CREDIT MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP BETWEEN JANUARY AND MARCH 2021, HOSTING A TOTAL OF ___ PARTICPANTS.
