MATTOON AREA INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT CORP (MAID) ACQUIRED AND REHABILITATED A BUILDING TO SUIT THE NEEDS OF A BLUE CROSS/BLUE SHIELD CLAIM PROCESSING CENTER. MAID FEELS THE PROJECT WAS INSTRUMENTAL IN SECURING AND RETAINING THE 100 PLUS JOBS AT THE FACILITY.AFTER 20 YEARS, MAID CONTINUES TO SUPPORT BLUE CROSS/BLUE SHIELD, AND CONTINUES TO ADDRESS THE EXPANSION OF THE CURRENT CENTER INTO A REGIONAL CENTER. THIS REGIONAL CENTER WILL BRING ADDITIONAL JOBS TO THE MATTOON COMMUNITY.MAID CONTINUES TO WORK CLOSELY WITH BLUE CROSS/BLUE SHIELD TO ASSURE THE COMPANY HAS GOOD EMPLOYEE RETENTION, THE FACILITY HAS PROPER REPAIRS WHEN NEEDED, AND THE FACILITY IS SUPPORTED TO MEET THE INCREASED POWER NEEDS FOR THE INCREASED COMPUTER USAGE.
MATTOON AREA INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT HAS ASSISTED MATTOON HIGH SCHOOL WITH PURCHASING OF EQUIPMENT TO ASSIST THE STUDENTS OF THE HIGH SCHOOL. SPECIFICALLY, THE BOARD MET AT THE HIGH SCHOOL DURING THE YEAR, TOURED VARIOUS TRADE CLASSES (WOODWORK, AGRICULTURE, AUTOMOTIVE, ETC) TO SEE WHAT THE STUDENTS WERE WORKING ON. MATTOON COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT #2 WAS RECENTLY AWARDED BY THE STATE BOARD OF EDUCAITON THE ABILITY TO PROVIDE MORE REAL LIFE CLASSROOMS AND LESS TRADTIONAL CLASSES. THESE STUDENTS NEED TO HAVE SUFFICIENT TECHNOLOGY TO BE ABLE TO USE IN ORDER TO LEARN HOW TO BE PREPARED WHEN ENTERING THE WORKFORCE. THE HIGH SCHOOL PROVIDED A LISTING OF EQUIPMENT THAT IS NEEDED AND THE BOARD APPROVED THE PURCHASE OF THE EQUIPMENT.
MATTOON AREA INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT (MAID) HAS PARTNERED WITH COLES TOGETHER IN AN EFFORT TO ATTRACT NEW BUSINESSES TO MATTOON. COLES TOGETHER'S MISSION ALIGNS WITH THAT OF MAID TO PROMOTE ECONOMIC AND WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT.
