THE YEAR 2018 WAS A DIFFICULT ONE FOR THE VALHALLA PROJECT VOLUNTEER CADRE. INJURIES AND HEALTH ISSUES WITH THE MANAGEMENT TEAM SLOWED ACTIVITIES AND HAMPERED OUTREACH. CONCOMITANTLY, VETERAN PARTICIPATION DECLINED, APPARENTLY DUE TO GROWING CULTURAL EMPHASIS ON SOCIAL MEDIA ACTIVITIES RATHER THAN ACTUAL PARTICIPATION BUILDING TRADITIONAL SKILLS ON A RURAL HOMESTEAD ENVIRONMENT. AS A RESULT, WE WERE ABLE TO MAINTAIN OPERATIONS AT PREVIOUS LEVELS BUT WERE UNABLE TO INITIATE NEW PROGRAMS OR EXPAND OUR ACTIVITIES. THE VALHALLA PROJECT IS CURRENTLY INVESTIGATING ALTERNATE METHODS FOR MAINTAINING AND EXPANDING PROGRAMS FOR THE BENEFIT OF POST-9/11 COMBAT VETERANS IN THE ABSENCE OF PAID STAFF OR AT LEAST SEVERAL MORE FULL-TIME VOLUNTEERS.
