PRESENTING DIVERSE VOICESAS ONE OF THE NATION'S LEADING PRESENTERS OF MUSIC AND DANCE, COMPANIES FROM CHICAGO ARE SHOWCASED ALONGSIDE ARTISTS AND ENSEMBLES FROM THROUGHOUT THE U.S. AND AROUND THE GLOBE. 32 COUNTRIES AND 6 CONTINENTS HAVE BEEN REPRESENTED ON THE THEATER'S STAGE, EXPANDING CROSS-CULTURAL UNDERSTANDING, CELEBRATING THE AUTHENTICITY OF STORY AND VOICE, AND RESPECT FOR DIVERSITY.IN AUGUST 2021, THE THEATER REOPENED TO THE PUBLIC AFTER AN 18-MONTH CLOSURE WITH INTERPLAY, A MULTI-GENERATIONAL MINI-FESTIVAL CURATED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH TRUMPETER AND BAND LEADER SAM THOUSAND. OVER THE COURSE OF THE 2021-22 SEASON, A DIVERSE RANGE OF ARTISTS WERE PRESENTED IN BOTH LIVE AND VIRTUAL SETTINGS. HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDED MEXICAN TENOR JAVIER CAMARENA; HAITIAN-AMERICAN COMPOSER, SINGER, AND FLUTIST NATHALIE JOACHIM WITH CHICAGO'S OWN SPEKTRAL QUARTET; A WEEK-LONG RESIDENCY WITH UK-BASED AKRAM KHAN COMPANY; ENGLISH NATIONAL BALLET IN THE NORTH AMERICAN PREMIERE OF CREATURE; RISING JAZZ STAR SAMARA JOY; SUPERSTAR MEZZO-SOPRANO JOYCE DIDONATO; A NEW WORK FROM ADRIAN DUNN EXPLORING BLACK LIFE IN AMERICA THROUGH HIS SIGNATURE FUSION OF GOSPEL AND CLASSICAL FORMS; AND CONTINUED PARTNERSHIPS WITH LYRIC OPERA AND THE CHAMBER MUSIC SOCIETY OF LINCOLN CENTER.

FROM ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS FOR MUNTU DANCE CHICAGO TO SOLD-OUT LIVE RECORDINGS OF WBEZ'S WAIT WAIT DON'T TELL ME, AND AN ADVENTUROUS PRODUCTION OF CARMEN FROM CHICAGO OPERA THEATER, THE 2021-22 SEASON REFLECTED THE RESILIENCE OF CHICAGO'S CREATIVE SECTOR, AND THE STRENGTH OF THE RESIDENT COMPANY COMMUNITY.
