Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
COMMUNICATION: PROVIDED RETIREMENT/HEALTHCARE INFORMATION TO OUR MEMBERSHIP. ILLUSTRATED HOW THE TERMINATION OF OUR PENSIONS WILL AFFECT ALL MEMBERS. PROVIDED INFORMATION AS TO HOW THE PBGC WILL INTERFACE WITH EACH MEMBER. WE ALSO MAINTAIN ROBUST COMMUNICATIONS WITH OUR MEMBERS VIA A PUBLIC WEBSITE AND PERIODIC E-BLASTS TO MEMBERS THAT CONVEY AUDIO AND WRITTEN UPDATES AS PENSION AND HEALTH CARE DEVELOPMENTS WARRANT.
WATCHDOG/LEGAL/GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS: DSRA'S LAWSUIT AGAINST THE PENSION BENEFIT GUARANTY CORPORATION (PBGC) ENDED IN JANUARY OF 2022. OUR ATTENTION THEN TURNED TO LEGISLATION INTRODUCED IN THE 117TH CONGRESS IN MARCH 2022. IF PASSED, IT WOULD RESTORE OUR PENSION PLAN. WE HELD VIRTUAL MEETINGS WITH CONGRESSIONAL STAFF TO EXPLAIN HOW THE LEGISLATION AFFECTED OUR MEMBERS, AND WE KEPT DSRA'S MEMBERS APPRISED OF DEVELOPMENTS.
MEMBERSHIP REPRESENTATION: ALL BOD AND COMMITTEE MEMBERS WORK FOR THE ENTIRE MEMBERSHIP. DSRA HAS POINTS OF CONTACT IN ALL STATES OF MAJOR MEMBERSHIP TO BETTER PROVIDE COMMUNICATION. IF A MEMBER HAS PROBLEMS WITH THE PBGC, WE WILL RUN INTERFERENCE AND RESOLVE ISSUES, SO RETIREES WILL NOT EXPERIENCE A HARDSHIP SITUATION. WE HAVE BECOME EXPERTS IN ALL PBGC RULES, HEALTH CARE MATTERS, SURVIVOR SPOUSE BENEFITS, PENSION MATTERS, AND SEVERENCE PAYMENTS. WE ALSO HAVE BEEN THE VOICE OF OUR RETIREE MEMBERSHIP IN COMMUNICATING WITH MEMBERS OF CONGRESS THE HARDSHIPS THAT THESE PENSION AND HEALTH CARE CIRCUMSTANCES HAVE HAD ON US AND OUR FAMILIES.
