JOY WORLD, KENYA: 80 ABUSED, MOLESTED, ORPHANED, AND ABANDONED GIRLS ARE WELCOMED INTO A HOME THAT ACTS MUCH LIKE AN ORPHANAGE. AT THE HOME, GIRLS ARE GIVEN PERSONAL AND COMMUNAL RESPONSIBILITIES, CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT LESSONS, SCHOLARSHIPS TO ATTEND THE LOCAL PUBLIC SCHOOL, FOOD, MEDICAL CARE, AND CLOTHING. 3 MATRONS OVERSEE THE GIRLS IN THE HOME, AND THE GIRLS THRIVE AND EXCEL IN THEIR STUDIES TO BECOME PREFECTS, STUDENT BODY PRESIDENTS, AND EARN SCHOLARSHIPS TO ATTEND PRIVATE BOARDING SCHOOLS FOR HIGH SCHOOL.
JUST ORGANIZATION FOR NATURAL GROWTH, INDIA: 870 DALIT AND UNTOUCHABLE GIRLS ATTEND AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAMS THAT ENSURE THEY GRADUATE HIGH SCHOOL RATHER THAN DROP OUT AFTER 8TH GRADE LIKE WHAT WAS COMMON BEFORE OUR PROGRAM. GIRLS GROW AND GAIN A STRONGER TIE TO THEIR SCHOOLING, AND BUILD CLOSER TIES TO EACH OTHER SO THAT THEY CAN BREAK THE CYCLE OF POVERTY IN WHICH THEY LIVE. 10 GIRLS ARE GIVEN BIKES SO THAT THEY CAN TRAVEL TO SCHOOL WITHOUT BEING SEXUALLY ASSAULTED. STUDENTS WHO HAVE DROPPED OUT OR ARE DIVORCED LEARN SEWING SKILLS.
RUIRI, KENYA - SCHOLARSHIPS FOR DAUGHTERS OF MOTHERS WITH HIV: 60 GIRLS ARE GIVE MONEY TO ATTEND SCHOOL. THEIR MOTHERS ARE HIV POSITIVE AND FARM A COMMUNAL PLOT OF LAND TO SUPPORT THEMSELVES AND THE NEARBY JOY WORLD HOME.
