PROMOTE UNITY AND WELL BEING AMOUNT INDIANA'S AMERICAN INDIANS, ALASKA NATIVES, AND OTHER PEOPLE INDIGENOUS TO THE UNITED STATES THROUGH PERSONAL, ECONOMIC, SOCIAL, HEALTH OUTREACH, AND CULTURAL EDUCATION DEVELOPMENT; AND TO PROMOTE THE STRENGTHENING OF MUTUAL UNDERSTANDING AND RESPECT AMONG INDIAN AND NON-INDIAN PEOPLE IN INDIANA.

WORKFORCE INNOVATION AND OPPORTUNITY ACT (WIOA) PROGRAM AICI IS A U.S. DEPARTMENT OF LABOR EMPLOYMENT AND TRAINING ADMINISTRATION NATIVE AMERICAN PROGRAMS DIVISION SECTION 166 GRANTEE WORKING COOPERATIVELY THROUGHOUT THE STATE OF INDIANA WITHIN THE DWD/WORK ONE SYSTEM THE DESIGNATED SERVICE AREA OF AICI'S WIOA PROGRAM CURRENTLY INCLUDES ALL OF THE COUNTIES IN INDIANA. IN PRIOR YEARS, SIX INDIANA COUNTIES WERE WITHIN THE DESIGNATED SERVICE AREA OF THE POKAGON BAND OF POTAWATOMI INDIANS, BASED IN DOWAGIAC, MICHIGAN.CORE SERVICES- OUTREACH, INTAKE, ELIGIBILITY CERTIFICATION, JOB SEARCH AND PLACEMENT ASSISTANCE, AND REFERRAL TO ONESTOP/WORKONE SERVICE PROVIDERS AS WARRANTED. INTENSIVE SERVICES- PARTICIPANTS MAY RECEIVE ALL OF THE CORE SERVICES NOTED ABOVE AND MAY ALSO RECEIVE THE FOLLOWING ADDITIONAL SERVICES: GED PREPARATION CLASSES AND FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR TESTING COSTSFINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR TRAINING AND OCCUPATIONAL SKILLS TRAINING, INCLUDING CERTIFICATION PROGRAMS, ASSOCIATE DEGREES AND BACHELOR DEGREESSUPPORT SERVICES TO OVERCOME BARRIERS TO BECOMING SELF-SUFFICIENTTHESE SERVICES ALSO INCLUDE COMPREHENSIVE ASSESSMENT, CAREER COUNSELING AND PLANNING, TRAINING AND EDUCATION COUNSELING AND PLANNING, INDIVIDUAL SERVICE PLANNING, WORK EXPERIENCE/ON-THE-JOB TRAINING, AND SUPPORTIVE SERVICES. *SERVICES PROVIDED INCLUDE THOSE WHO ARE HANDICAPPED OR WITH SPECIAL NEEDS. ALL SERVICES ARE FREE TO EMPLOYERS AND PARTICIPANTS. CIRCLE OF WELLNESS PROGRAM THROUGH ITS CIRCLE OF WELLNESS PROGRAM, AICI PROVIDES HEALTH EDUCATION, SCREENINGS, AND REFERRAL SERVICES TO AMERICAN INDIANS/ALASKA NATIVES/NATIVE HAWAIIANS IN INDIANA; ALSO, AICI OFFERS HEALTH-RELATED CULTURAL COMPETENCY WORKSHOPS TO NON-INDIAN HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS IN INDIANA WHO SERVICE AMERICAN INDIAN/ALASKA NATIVE/NATIVE HAWAIIAN CLIENTS. CULTURAL COMPETENCY BEYOND ITS WIOA AND CIRCLE OF WELLNESS PROGRAMS, AICI ALSO FACILITATES BROADER EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES THAT INCREASE THE PUBLIC'S AWARENESS OF INDIANA'S AMERICAN INDIAN CULTURE AND COMMUNITIES, ESPECIALLY IN A MANNER THAT STIMULATES CRITICAL THINKING ABOUT ACCURATE AND RELIABLE PORTRAYALS OF AMERICAN INDIANS. THE PURPOSE OF THESE ACTIVITIES IS TO DISPEL NEGATIVE OR UNINFORMED STEREOTYPES. SUCH ACTIVITIES INCLUDE INDIAN ARTS, CRAFTS, AND STORYTELLING WORKSHOPS IN VARIOUS VENUES ACROSS INDIANA; VENUES MAY INCLUDE LIBRARIES AND POWWOWS, AMONG OTHER PLACES.
