GOODWILL PROVIDES VOCATIONAL TRAINING AND EMPLOYMENT PLACEMENT FOR ADULTS, FAMILY SUPPORT SERVICES AND OPERATES A CHILD DEVELOPMENT AND PRESCHOOL CENTER, WHICH ARE SUPPORTED THROUGH THE OPERATION OF GOODWILL RETAIL STORES THAT SELL A WIDE VARIETY OF CLOTHING, SMALL MERCHANDISE AND HOUSEWARES, WHICH ARE OBTAINED THROUGH DONATIONS FROM THE GENERAL PUBLIC.

GOODWILL OF SOUTHERN INDIANA, INC. IS A MEMBER ORGANIZATION OF GOODWILL INDUSTRIES INTERNATIONAL (GII). GII IS THE LEADING NONPROFIT PROVIDER OF EMPLOYMENT TRAINING, JOB PLACEMENT SERVICES AND OTHER CRITICAL COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICES FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE DISABILITIES, PEOPLE WHO LACK EDUCATION OR JOB EXPERIENCE, HOUSEHOLDS FACING ECONOMIC CHALLENGES, AND OTHERS IN NEED. GOODWILL OF SOUTHERN INDIANA OPERATES 11 GOODWILL STORES THROUGHOUT SOUTHERN INDIANA. THE INDIANA COMMUNITIES WE SERVE DONATE CLOTHING, FURNITURE, TOYS, HOUSE WARES, AND OTHER ITEMS TO OUR STORES. THE STORES THEN SELL THESE GENTLY USED DONATIONS AT A VERY LOW COST. THE FUNDS FROM THOSE SALES PROVIDE THE REVENUE FOR THE HUMAN SERVICES THAT GOODWILL OF SOUTHERN INDIANA PROVIDES TO CHILDREN AND ADULTS WITH DISABILITIES. IN ADDITION, GOODWILL OF SOUTHERN INDIANA PROVIDES VOUCHERS FOR FREE CLOTHING & HOUSEHOLD ITEMS TO ORGANIZATIONS IN SOUTHERN INDIANA THAT PROVIDE ASSISTANCE TO PEOPLE IN CRISIS SITUATIONS. THESE VOUCHERS ALLOW PEOPLE WITHIN OUR SERVICE AREA TO OBTAIN ECONOMIC ASSISTANCE FREE OF CHARGE. 3,769 VOUCHERS WERE REDEEMED IN FISCAL YEAR 2016. ADDITIONALLY, OVER 1.3 MILLION POUNDS OF GOODS WERE RECYCLED.
GOODWILL OF SOUTHERN INDIANA PROVIDES SERVICES TO CHILDREN THROUGH THE CHILDRENS LEARNING CENTER (CLC). THE CLC OFFERS CHILDCARE, CHILD DEVELOPMENT, AND PRESCHOOL. THE CLC SERVES CHILDREN AGES 6 WEEKS TO 5 YEARS. WHILE THE CLC PROVIDES SERVICES TO ALL CHILDREN, THE SPECIALTY IS CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL MEDICAL NEEDS. THE GOAL OF THE CLC IS ENSURING ALL CHILDREN ARE PREPARED FOR SUCCESS WHEN THEY ENTER KINDERGARTEN. THE CLC IS A LICENSED CHILDCARE PROGRAM BY THE STATE OF INDIANA. A TOTAL OF 131 CHILDREN WERE SERVED IN FISCAL YEAR 2016. THESE CHILDREN RECEIVED A TOTAL OF 28,621 MEALS & SNACKS. ADDITIONALLY, 12,447 CHILDREN'S BOOKS WERE DISTRIBUTED TO 23 NON-PROFIT AGENCIES WITHIN THE 9 COUNTY SERVICE AREA.
GOODWILL OF SOUTHERN INDIANA PROVIDES AN EMPLOYMENT SERVICES (ES) PROGRAM FOR ADULTS WITH DISABILITIES AND DISADVANTAGES SO THESE INDIVIDUALS CAN FIND AND KEEP GOOD JOBS. CLIENTS ARE REFERRED BY VOCATIONAL REHABILITATION, WHO ARE IN NEED OF EMPLOYMENT. THE ES PROGRAM CONDUCTS INTERVIEWS TO DETERMINE NEEDS, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES. CASE MANAGEMENT SERVICES ARE PROVIDED FOR THOSE CLIENTS WHO NEED SUPPORT IN ADDITION TO EMPLOYMENT. CLIENTS ALSO RECEIVE ASSISTANCE IN JOB READINESS SKILLS. WHEN A CLIENT IS DETERMINED EMPLOYMENT READY, ASSISTANCE IS PROVIDED IN SECURING A JOB IN THE LOCAL COMMUNITY. JOB SHADOWING IS CONDUCTED FOR AS LONG AS NECESSARY TO ENSURE THE EMPLOYMENT PLACEMENT IS SUCCESSFUL. INDIVIDUALS CAN THEN ACHIEVE GREATER LEVELS OF SELF-SUFFICIENCY AND ECONOMIC SUCCESS THROUGH THESE WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT SERVICES. 157 CLIENTS WERE SUPPORTED BY GOODWILL, WITH 3 PLACED IN EMPLOYMENT.GOODWILL OF SOUTHERN INDIANA PROVIDES A VARIETY OF SERVICES FOR FAMILIES. THE FAMILY SUPPORT PROGRAM IS DESIGNED FOR PARENTS OF CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL MEDICAL NEEDS. THE GOAL OF THE PROGRAM IS TO ASSIST FAMILIES IN MEETING THE NEEDS OF THE ENTIRE FAMILY. SERVICES PROVIDED INCLUDE CONSULTATIONS TO DETERMINE NEEDS, CARE PLANS DEVELOPING A COURSE OF ACTION, REFERRALS TO COMMUNITY AND MEDICAL RESOURCES, AND TRAINING ON SPECIAL ISSUES RELEVANT TO THE FAMILY. IF A PEDIATRIC THERAPY IS NEEDED, AND THE FAMILY HAS NO INSURANCE OR CAN NOT AFFORD THE THERAPY; GOODWILL OF SOUTHERN INDIANA WILL PAY FOR THE THERAPY. OF THE 131 CHILDREN SERVED, APPROXIMATELY 1/3 HAD SPECIAL NEEDS.
