THE AKRON CIVIC THEATRE, AN HISTORICAL AND VIBRANT NONPROFIT CULTURAL ARTS CENTER IN DOWNTOWN AKRON, ENRICHES THE LIVES OF PEOPLE OF ALL AGES AND BACKGROUNDS THROUGHOUT THE REGION BY PRESENTING A DIVERSE ARRAY OF LOCAL AND NATIONAL PERFORMING ARTISTS AND COMMUNITY EVENTS. IN FY 2021, THE AKRON CIVIC THEATRE HOSTED 75 PUBLIC EVENTS AND 15 TOURS. ATTENDANCE AT FY 2021 EVENTS WAS 19,750, AND 171 DEDICATED VOLUNTEERS GAVE 2,191 HOURS TO GREET AND ASSIST PATRONS. THROUGH OUR ALL ACCESS PROGRAM, WE DISTRIBUTED 1,813 FREE TICKETS TO ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED FAMILIES AND SENIOR CITIZENS SERVED BY OUR PARTNER SOCIAL SERVICE AGENCIES FOR CONCERTS, FAMILY SHOWS, MUSICALS AND SPECIAL EVENTS.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
THE OPERATION OF THE COMMUNITY HALL FOUNDATION DBA AKRON CIVIC THEATRE INCLUDES PRESENTATIONS OF LIVE MUSIC (JAZZ, BLUES, FOLK), DANCE (BALLET, CONTEMPORARY), THEATER (ALL-CITY MUSICAL) AND OCCASIONALLY FILM. IN ADDITION, TOURS ARE OFFERED AND THE FACILITY IS USED FOR A VARIETY OF COMMUNITY-BASED EVENTS. THE FOUNDATION ALSO RENTS THE FACILITIES TO A WIDE VARIETY OF ORGANIZATIONS FOR THE PURPOSE OF THEIR PRESENTATION OF LIVE MUSIC, DANCE, THEATER AND FILM. THE FACILITIES ARE ALSO USED FOR OTHER COMMUNITY-BASED FUNDRAISING EVENTS, AS WELL AS WEDDINGS AND MEETINGS.
THE COMMUNITY HALL FOUNDATION DBA AKRON CIVIC THEATRE PROVIDES ADMINISTRATIVE, FISCAL, TECHNICAL, LOGISTICAL, AND TECHNICAL SUPPORT TO THE CITY OF AKRON IN RELATION TO ITS PROGRAMMING OF LOCK 3 AND LOCK 4 PARKS. LOCK 3 HOSTS A SERIES OF FREE FRIDAY NIGHT CONCERTS FROM MEMORIAL DAY TO LABOR DAY, A SERIES OF SATURDAY EVENING CONCERTS FROM LATE JUNE THROUGH LABOR DAY, AND A NUMBER OF FESTIVALS INCLUDING THE RIB WHITE AND BLUE FESTIVAL OVER FOURTH OF JULY AND THE ITALIAN AMERICAN FESTIVAL THE FOLLOWING WEEK. LOCK 4 HOSTS A SERIES OF JAZZ, BLUES AND GOSPEL CONCERTS DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS.
THE BOUTIQUE, OPERATED BY THE VOLUNTEERS OF THE AKRON CIVIC THEATRE WOMEN'S GUILD, EXISTS TO SELL ITEMS RELATED TO THE HISTORICAL NATURE OF THE FACILITIES DURING TOURS AND OTHER EVENTS. REVENUES AND EXPENSES RELATED TO THE BOUTIQUE ARE A COMPONENT OF PART VIII LINES 10A AND 10B AND WERE 3,186 AND 3,105, RESPECTIVELY.
