PENNSYLVANIA DOWNTOWN CENTER, INC. ACCOMPLISHES IT'S MISSION BY TRAINING AND EDUCATING LOCAL COMMUNITY LEADERS AND VOLUNTEERS TO ADVANCE THE SENSE OF PLACE, QUALITY OF LIFE, AND ECONOMIC VITALITY OF THE COMMONWEALTH'S DOWNTOWNS, TRADITIONAL NEIGHBORHOOD BUSINESS DISTRICTS, AND NEARBY RESIDENTIAL AREAS. ADDITIONALLY, THE ORGANIZATION OFFERS ON-SITE TRAINING AND CONSULTATION, TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE CONSULTATIONS, BOARD TRAINING, AND SPONSORS WORKSHOPS.
PENNSYLVANIA DOWNTOWN CENTER COLLABORATES WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH ON THE WALKWORKS PROGRAM. USING FUNDING FROM THE CENTERS FOR DISEASE CONTROL AND PREVENTION UNDER THE STATE PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AND NUTRITION PROGRAM AND THE PREVENTIVE HEALTH AND HEALTH SERVICES BLOCK GRANT PROGRAM, WALKWORKS PROMOTES ACTIVE TRANSPORTATION IN PENNSYLVANIA COMMUNITIES IN ORDER TO IMPROVE PUBLIC HEALTH. THE PROGRAM PROVIDES TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE, CAPACITY BUILDING, AND GRANT FUNDING TO COMMUNITIES FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF ACTIVE TRANSPORTATION PLANS.
