4A - THE MOUNT AIRY MAIN STREET ASSOCIATION MANAGED THE MARYLAND STRONG ECONOMIC RECOVERY INITIATIVE FROM THE MARYLAND DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT FOR THE ECONOMIC RECOVERY OF MAIN STREET BUSINSSES IN MOUNTY AIRY AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE COMMUNITY AS A MARYLAND MAIN STREET COMMUNITY. AS SUCH, THE MOUNT AIRY MAIN STREET ASSOCIATION AS AN ELIGIBLE GRANTEE UNDER THE MSERI GRANT PROGRAM ADMINISTERED THE DISTRIBUTION OF $ 81,499 IN DIRECT GRANTS TO DOWNTOWN BUSINESSES ADVERSELY IMPACTED BY COVID 19 AND $ 30,000 OVERALL ASSISTANCE AND PROMOTION OF THE HISTORIC DOWNTOWN BUSINESSES, COMMUNITY AND COVID 19 RELATED EQUIPMENT(HAND SANITIZING STATION, A-FRAMES, ETC.) FUNDS WERE ALSO USED TO PROVIDE PPE TO INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES DURING THE HEIGHT OF THE COVID PANDEMIC.
4C - DURING THE FISCAL YEAR THE ORGANIZATION SPONSORS VARIOUS EVENTS IN THE HISTORIC DOWNTOWN TO ATTRACK VISITORS TO THE TOWN AS PART OF THE REVITALIZATION INITIATIVE AND PROGRAM TO MAKE THE DISTRICT A VIBRANT ECONOMIC CENTER WHILE INCREASING THE TAX BASE OF THE COMMUNITY. THESE EVENTS INCLUDE CARRIAGE RIDES, FESTIVALS, AND HOLIDAY CELEBRATIONS DONE IN COOPERATION WITH THE MOUNT AIRY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION, A COMMISSION OF THE TOWN OF MOUNT AIRY GOVERNMENT.
4B - FOR OVER 12 YEARS THE MOUNT AIRY MAIN STREET ASSOCIATION HAS RUN THE THE DOWNTOWN FARMERS MARKET. THIS EVENT WAS CREATED IN RESPONSE TO RESIDENTS REQUESTS FOR A LOCAL MARKET OFFERING LOCAL PRODUCE, MEATS, DAIRY AND OTHER PRODUCTS. ITS PURPOSE WAS AND STILL IS TO SERVICE THE COMMUNITY, FILL A NEED FOR LOCAL, HEATHY, AND FRESH PRODUCE WHILE SUPPORTING LOCAL AGRICULTURE. SEVERAL YEARS AGO THE MARKET STARTED THE NUTRITION BUCKS PROGRAM. USING GRANT FUNDS, THE MARKET OFFERED VOUCHERS ADMINISTERED BY THE LOCAL FOOD BANK TO INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES IN THE NEED OF FOOD ASSISTANCE. EVERY YEAR, A PORTION OF THE GRANT FUNDS ARE DISPENSED DIRECTLY TO MOUNT AIRY AREA NET, OUR LOCAL FOOD BANK, TO PROVIDE SOME ASSISTANCE IN THEIR ON-GOING PROGRAM OF SUPPORT TO NEEDED INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES. ANY INCOME IN EXCESS OF EXPENSES IS USED TO PAY ANNUAL STARTUP COSTS TO PUT THE MARKET ON A SOLID FINANCIAL FOOTING FOR THE START OF THE NEXT YEAR.
