GENERAL ATOMICS SCIENTISTS ENGINEERS SUPPORTING SCIENCE ENGINEERING FOR STUDENTS GASSSS PROGRAM SUPPORTED 209 ENGINEERS AND SCIENTISTS IN 2023 TO PERFORM SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING ACTIVITIES AND REIMBURSED THEM FOR $30,000 IN SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING MATERIALS THAT THEY PURCHASED AND PROVIDED TO THOSE SCHOOLS OR ACTIVITIES. THESE ACTIVITIES RANGED FROM TALKING TO STUDENTS ABOUT THEIR CAREERS AND PROVIDING CAREER MENTORING GIVING SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING DEMONSTRATIONS TO STUDENTS ASSISTING TEACHERS WITH SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING LESSONS MENTORING HIGH SCHOOL ROBOTICS CLUBS OR PROVIDING SUPPORT TO REGIONAL SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING COMPETITIONS SUCH AS SCIENCE FAIRS. ON AVERAGE EACH OF THESE ACTIVITIES INVOLVED ABOUT 30 STUDENTS SO APPROXIMATELY 6000 STUDENTS WERE INVOLVED IN THESE SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING OUTREACH ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES.
THE GENERAL ATOMICS SCIENCES EDUCATION FOUNDATION PROVIDED SUPPORT FOR THE INNOVATIONS FOR LEARNING INC. CHAPTER ONE LITERACY PROGRAM AT THE NEW HAVEN SCHOOL DISTRICT IN UNION CITY CALIFORNIA AREA FIRST GRADE CLASSROOMS WHERE 21 GENERAL ATOMICS EMPLOYEES PROVIDED ON-LINE TUTORING OF STUDENTS IN READING AND SCIENCE STORIES DURING THE 2023-2024 SCHOOL YEAR AND IN DENVER COLORADO AREA SCHOOLS WHERE 17 GENERAL ATOMICS EMPLOYEES PARTICIPATED IN THIS PROGRAM DURING THE 2022-2023 SCHOOL YEAR.
