THE SAN DIEGO CHILDRENS CHOIR PROVIDES THE YOUTH OF SAN DIEGO WITH THE HIGHEST QUALITY CHORAL MUSIC EDUCATION AND PERFORMANCE EXPERIENCE, FOSTERING AN AWARENESS OF CULTURAL DIVERSITY AND INSPIRING A LIFELONG LOVE OF MUSIC.THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDES TRAINING FOR OVER 1200 CHILDREN IN THE GREATER SAN DIEGO AREA, INCLUDING DIVERSE ETHNIC AND ECONOMIC AREAS. THE CHORAL TRAINING INCLUDES SPECIFIC VOICE TRAINING, FAMILIARITY WITH CLASSICAL AND TRADITIONAL MUSIC, SOCIAL SKILLS, FAMILY AND COMMUNITY VALUES INCLUDING EXPOSURE TO OTHER COUNTRIES AND CULTURES.

DURING THE FISCAL YEAR ENDING JUNE 30, 2022 THE SAN DIEGO CHILDRENS CHOIR (SDCC) PROVIDED HIGH QUALITY MUSIC EDUCATION TO MORE THAN 1,200 PREK12TH GRADE CHILDREN WHO COME FROM DIVERSE SOCIOECONOMIC COMMUNITIES THROUGHOUT SAN DIEGO COUNTY. SDCC OFFERS AN ENSEMBLE PROGRAM WHERE CHILDREN (AGES 6-18) RECEIVE SEQUENTIAL CHORAL TRAINING AND FORMATIVE PERFORMANCE EXPERIENCES. CHORISTERS DEVELOP AS MUSICIANS THROUGH AGE- AND SKILL-BASED VOICE TRAINING, MUSIC LITERACY, FAMILIARITY WITH CLASSIC AND TRADITIONAL MUSIC AND DIVERSE PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES. THEY ALSO DEVELOP LIFE SKILLS THROUGH FAMILY AND COMMUNITY VALUES AND EXPOSURE TO OTHER COUNTRIES AND CULTURES. SDCCS INTRODUCTORY AND OUTREACH PROGRAMS PROVIDE FIRST EXPERIENCES IN MUSIC FOR PREK3RD GRADE CHILDREN, INCLUDING A SPECIAL RESEARCH PROJECT FOCUSED ON THE IMPACT OF MUSIC EDUCATION FOR YOUNG CHILDREN. OF THE CHILDREN SERVED, 66% WERE LOW-INCOME AND RECEIVED DONOR AND GRANT FUNDED FREE MUSIC EDUCATION. SINCE 1993, THE SAN DIEGO CHILDRENS CHOIR HAS TOURED REGIONALLY AND ABROAD. IN FISCAL YEAR 2021-22, 20 MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL AGE CHORISTERS IN OUR ADVANCED ENSEMBLES TOURED NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA AND PARTICIPATED IN THE CRESCENT CITY YOUTH CHORAL FESTIVAL. THE SAN DIEGO CHILDRENS CHOIR IS A VITAL PART OF THE ARTS COMMUNITY THROUGHOUT THE REGION, FREQUENTLY JOINING WITH OTHER ORGANIZATIONS IN COLLABORATIVE CONCERT PROGRAMS AND EVENTS.
