Describe the Organization's Mission:

Part 3 - Line 1

TO INCREASE THE AWARENESS AND APPRECIATION OF OLD TIME ATHABASCAN MUSIC, CULTURE AND HISTORY.

Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

VOICE OF DENALI, KRFF 89.1, WAS CREATED BY THE ORGANIZATION WITH THE MISSION OF SHARING, PERPETUATING, AND PRESERVING ATHABASCAN CULTURE, TRADITIONS, AND VALUES, THROUGH PRESERVATION, DOCUMENTATION, AND EDUCATION. BECAUSE OF COVID-19, THE RURAL VILLAGES WERE LOCKED DOWN AND TRAVEL BETWEEN RURAL AND URBAN ALASKA WAS LARGELY PROHIBITED. THE VOICE OF DENALI BECAME A CONNECTION BETWEEN RURAL ALASKA AND THE REST OF THE STATE.

TRADITIONALLY THE ORGANIZATION COORDINATES A FOUR DAY FESTIVAL ATTENDED BY ALASKA NATIVES FROM ALL OVER THE STATE OF ALASKA AND BEYOND. THE CULTURAL EVENT PASSES ON THE NATIVE TRADITIONS FROM THE ELDERS TO THE YOUNGER GENERATION WHICH INSURES THE CONTINUATION OF "KEEPING TIME WITH YOUNG AND OLD" DURING THE FOUR DAY FESTIVAL. SOME MEMBERS OF THE FAIRBANKS JUNIOR FIDDLERS AND OTHER YOUTH ORGANIZED A CONCERT FOR ELDERS WHO WANT THE TRADITIONAL MUSIC TO PLAY ON. THE FESTIVAL WAS CANCELLED DURING 2020 DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC.
