DIRECT SERVICES - RESULTS FROM BOTH NATIONAL AND LOCAL NONPROFIT NEEDS ASSESSMENT INDICATE THAT THERE CONTINUE TO BE ADDITIONAL NEEDS AMONG NONPROFITS FOR FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT, FUND DEVELOPMENT AND GRANT MANAGEMENT, STRATEGIC PLANNING, AND BOARD DEVELOPMENT. MANY KC-AREA NONPROFITS FIND IT DIFFICULT TO MEET THEIR OPERATING EXPENSES WHILE PERFORMING FUNCTIONS LIKE ACCOUNTING AND FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT OR FUND DEVELOPMENT, ESPECIALLY DURING THE COVID-19 PUBLIC HEALTH CRISIS. THERE ARE LOCAL NONPROFITS THAT WOULD NOT SURVIVE WITHOUT SKC'S AFFORDABLE, HIGH-QUALITY BUSINESS AND DEVELOPMENT SERVICES AND SUPPORTS. IN 2021, WE SERVED 167 AREA NONPROFITS. SUPPORT KANSAS CITY'S STAFF PROFESSIONAL CREDENTIALS INCLUDE AN ED.D, 4 CPA'S, PAYROLL SPECIALIST, DATABASE DEVELOPMENT EXPERTISE, GRANT WRITING AND FUND DEVELOPMENT EXPERTISE. SUPPORT KANSAS CITY PROVIDES THESE SERVICES AT BELOW MARKET RATES TO ALLOW NONPROFITS TO BUILD CAPACITY AND SUSTAINABILITY
EDUCATION: COMMUNITY IMPACT EXPERTISE AS A "BACKBONE" ORGANIZATION FOR THE BOARD DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION INITIATIVE FOCUSING ON NONPROFIT BOARD DIVERSITY. IN 2021 THE ORGANIZATION CONTINUED TO FOCUS ITS EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING TOWARD ORGANIZATIONAL SUPPORT THROUGH DIRECT RESOURCES AND COMMUNICATION WHICH INCLUDED: NEWSLETTERS AND DIRECT EMAIL COMMUNICATIONS WERE SENT TO CONTACTS EDUCATING THEM ON TOPICS RELEVANT TO CURRENT EVENTS. EACH COMMUNICATION PROVIDED INFORMATION TO HELP ORGANIZATIONS BUILD CAPACITY AND PROVIDED LINKS TO SKC TEAM MEMBERS WHO COULD PROVIDE ADDITIONAL SUPPORT AS NEEDED. SKC STAFF MET WITH OVER 100 AGENCIES ONE-ON-ONE TO PROVIDE GUIDANCE AND RESOURCES AS THEY EXPLORED WAYS TO BUILD THEIR ORGANIZATIONAL CAPACITY. SKC CONTINUED TO ASSIST AND EDUCATE ORGANIZATIONS ON BEST PRACTICES AND CAPACITY BUILDING THROUGH PRESENTATIONS TO BOARD AND ORGANIZATIONAL LEADERS.
COMMUNITY IMPACT: INITIATIVES THAT SEEK TO ENHANCE NONPROFIT SECTOR SKILLS, ORGANIZATIONAL EFFECTIVENESS, AND ENGAGEMENT OF STAKEHOLDERS IN OUR COMMUNITY IN 2021 INCLUDED SKC PROVIDING RESOURCES FOR; SKC ACTS AS THE FISCAL AGENT FOR CERTAIN GRANT AWARDS THROUGH THE HEALTH FORWARD FOUNDATION. AS PART OF OUR FISCAL AGENT WORK SKC PROVIDES ORGANIZATIONAL ASSESSMENTS FOR GRANTEES AND PROVIDES EDUCATION TO THE ORGANIZATION AND THEIR BOARDS ON BEST PRACTICES IN THE AREAS OF FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT AND GOVERNANCE. SKC ACTS AS A BACKBONE ORGANIZATION FOR THE BOARD DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION INITIATIVE PROVIDING SUPPORT FOR BOARDS TO BECOME MORE RACIALLY DIVERSE AND ASSIST PROSPECTIVE BOARD MEMBER IN SUPPORT OF BOARD SERVICE. SKC ALSO CONVENES WITH OTHER NONPROFIT PROFESSIONALS ON A REGULAR BASIS TO DISCUSS COLLABORATION, SECTOR NEEDS AND SUPPORT SERVICES FOR NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS. THESE RELATIONSHIPS PROVIDE RESOURCES FOR ORGANIZATIONS REGARDING RESOURCES AND TOOLS FOR BEST PRACTICES AND CAPACITY BUILDING.
