COMMUNITY HEALTH PROMOTION:AHCS COMMUNITY HEALTH PROGRAMS UTILIZE A COLLABORATIVE PARTNERSHIP APPROACH IN THE AREAS OF HEALTH PROMOTION AND TRANSLATIONAL RESEARCH WITH THE OVERARCHING THEME OF INCREASING ASIAN AMERICAN COMMUNITY VISIBILITY AND VOICE THROUGH HEALTH ADVOCACY. PROGRAMS INCLUDES CARDIOVASCULAR AND DIABETES PREVENTION, COMMUNITY HEALTH WORKER CAPACITY BUILDING DEVELOPMENT AND TRAINING, OBESITY PREVENTION AND HEALTH CARE REFORM OUTREACH.AHC ALSO OFFERED A PROGRAM FOR EDUCATION AND AWARENESS RELATED TO COVID 19, INCLUDING ASSISTANCE IN TRANSLATING COVID EDUCATION MATERIAL INTO VARIOUS LANGUAGES TO HELP ETHNIC GROUPS.
VIRAL HEPATITIS: SINCE 1997, AHC HAS PROVIDED A HEPATITIS EDUCATION AND PREVENTION PROGRAM (HEPP)USING THE COMMUNITY HEALTH WORKER MODEL TO ADDRESSING KEY AREAS OF HEPATITIS B AWARENESS, EDUCATION, SCREENING, AND IMMUNIZATION INCOLLABORATION WITH COMMUNITY PARTNERS, HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS, AND PUBLIC HEALTH AGENCIES. IN 2008, THIS HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL MODEL WAS EXPANDED INTO SUBURBAN COOK COUNTY AS WELL AS THE DUPAGE AND KANE COUNTIES WITH FUNDING THROUGH A MULTIYEARGRANT FROM THE CENTERS FOR DISEASE CONTROL. IN 2010, THE PROGRAM WAS EXPANDED TO INCORPORATE HEPATITIS C AND HIV/AIDS, WHICH ARE BOTH COMORBIDITIES OF HEPATITIS B.
MENTAL HEALTH AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE: AHC HAS DEVELOPED AND IMPLEMENTED COMPREHENSIVE MENTAL HEALTH AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE PREVENTION AND TREATMENT PROGRAMS USING EVIDENCE-BASED FRAMEWORKS TO ESTABLISH CULTURALLY COMPETENT CONTINUUM OF CARE FOR UNDERSERVED ASIAN COMMUNITIES IN ILLINOIS. CURRENTLY THE AGENCY LEADS THE COALITION FOR ASIAN SUBSTANCE ABUSE PREVENTION (CASAP) AND ASIAN AMERICAN SUBSTANCE ABUSE TREATMENT INITIATIVE (AASAII).
