TO PROMOTE THE HEALTH AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT OF MENTALLY, PHYSICALLY, AND EMOTIONALLY CHALLENGED INDIVIDUALS THROUGH EQUINE-ASSISTED THERAPEUTIC ACTIVITIES
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
WE SERVED 367 INDIVIDUALS IN OUR THERAPEUTIC PROGRAM. OUR PARTICIPANTS BENEFIT IN VARIOUS WAYS,DEPENDING ON THE PARTICULAR CHALLENGES THEY FACE. INCREASES IN PHYSICAL STRENGTH (ESPECIALLY CORE) AND COORDINATION, CONFIDENCE AND STRESS RELIEF ARE COMMON BENEFITS. CHILDREN OFTEN SEE IMPROVEMENT IN SCHOOL WORK. CLIENTS GENERALLY ATTEND WEEKLY SESIONS, WITH ONE OR TWO IN A CLASS. WEEK LONG DAY CAMPS ARE OFFERED IN THE SUMMER, AND FIELD TRIPS FOR SCHOOLS, HEAD START AND SOCIAL SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS ARE AVAILABLE AS WELL.
WE ALSO OFFER MENTORING FOR CANDIDATES FOR CERTIFICATION AS THERAPEUTIC RIDING INSTRUCTORS THROUGH PATH (PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATION OF THERAPEUTIC HORSEMANSHIP)INTERNATIONAL. OUR FIRST CANDIDATE COMPLETED ALL REQUIREMENTS UP TO FINAL TESTING AND HAS PAUSED TO PURSUE A DEGREE AS AN OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY ASSISTANT. A SECOND CANDIDATE STARTED DURING THE 2023-2024 FISCAL YEAR AND HAS ONE MORE PIECE TO COMPLETE BEFORE FINAL TESTING.
