THE INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF WOMEN JUDGES (IAWJ) IS A NON-PROFIT, NON- GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATION WHOSE MEMBERS REPRESENT ALL LEVELS OF THE JUDICIARY IN OVER 100 COUNTRIES/ AREAS WORLDWIDE AND SHARE A COMMITMENT TO EQUAL JUSTICE AND THE RULE OF LAW.

GFEMS: THROUGH THIS PROJECT, THE INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF WOMEN JUDGES (IAWJ), IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE IAWJ-KENYA CHAPTER AND THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF WOMEN JUDGES UGANDA, SEEKS TO INCREASE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF PROSECUTIONS AND REDUCE THE PREVALENCE OF LABOR TRAFFICKING IN KENYA AND UGANDA BY: (1) PROVIDING TRAININGS AND RESOURCE MATERIALS TO BOLSTER THE JUSTICE SECTOR RESPONSE TO TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS (TIP) AND MAKE IT MORE VICTIM-CENTERED; AND (2) FACILITATING DIALOGUES TO STRENGTHEN CROSS-BORDER ANTI-TIP COORDINATION AND INFORMAL INFORMATION SHARING AMONG JUSTICE SECTOR ACTORS.

CO-IMPACT: THE INITIATIVE, LED BY THE IAWJ, PILOTS PROGRAMS IN FIVE COUNTRIES: NIGERIA, KENYA, SOUTH AFRICA, AND THE PHILIPPINES. THE IAWJ SEEKS TO ADVANCE HUMAN RIGHTS AND EQUAL JUSTICE FOR WOMEN AND GIRLS BY EMPOWERING WOMEN ON THE BENCH TO OVERCOME GENDER BIAS IN THE LAWS AND THEIR APPLICATION. THIS INITIATIVE WILL SUPPORT IAWJ TO GROW ITS MEMBERSHIP, EXPAND PROGRAMMING AND DESIGN COUNTRY-RELEVANT INITIATIVES IN FIVE COUNTRIES BASED ON DATA COLLECTION AND COUNTRY NEEDS.


AFGHAN WOMEN: THE INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF WOMEN JUDGES (IAWJ) AFGHAN SUPPORT COMMITTEE HAS WORKED TIRELESSLY TO PROVIDE ADVICE, SUPPORT, AND MORE TO AFGHAN WOMEN JUDGES. THE IAWJ IS MADE UP OF JUDGES FROM AROUND THE WORLD WHO ARE COMMITTED TO SERVING ONE ANOTHER. WHEN THE TALIBAN BEGAN TO TAKE OVER KABUL AFTER THE US WITHDRAWAL FROM AFGHANISTAN IN AUGUST 2021, WOMEN JUDGES THERE WERE IN GRAVE DANGER. THE IAWJ SWIFTLY ESTABLISHED AN AFGHAN SUPPORT COMMITTEE TO AID THE MORE THAN 250 AFGHAN MEMBERS. IAWJ STEPPED UP TO HELP THESE JUDGES RESETTLE IN OTHER COUNTRIES SAFELY.
