THE U.S.-CHINA ENERGY TRANSITION AND COAL REGIONS TRACK II DIALOGUE WAS A PROJECT STARTED IN 2021. THE GOAL OF THE DIALOGUES IS TO DEVELOP NEW POLICY OUTCOMES THAT CAN BENEFIT COAL COMMUNITIES FACING THE ENERGY TRANSITION IN THE U.S. AND CHINA. THE DIALOGUE FEATURE STAKEHOLDERS MORE FROM THE U.S. AND CHINAS LEADING COAL PRODUCING REGIONS, NAMELY WYOMING, WEST VIRGINIA, AND PENNSYLVANIA IN THE U.S; AND IN CHINA, THE PROVINCES OF SHANXI, SHAANXI, AND INNER MONGOLIA. A CENTRAL GOAL OF THE DIALOGUES IS TO CREATE A BRIDGE/NETWORK BETWEEN THESE REGIONS THAT CAN BE BUILT UPON IN SUBSEQUENT YEARS ND AS A RESULT, STRENGTHEN THE NEW IDEAS, APPROACHES, AND COLLABORATION BETWEEN THE U.S. AND CHINA IN ACTIONS THAT CAN BE TAKEN TO HASTEN CLIMATE AMBITIONS WHILE AT THE SAME TIME CREATING NEW JOBS AND PROSPERITY FOR COAL PRODUCING REGIONS. EXPENSES FROM THIS PROGRAM WENT TOWARDS JHCGA STAFF SALARIES AND PROJECT MANAGEMENT INCLUDING RECRUITING OF PARTICIPANTS, RESEARCH, WRITING OF BACKGROUND MATERIALS, PREPARING THE AGENDA, OVERSEEING LOGISTICS AND PLANNING, PROVIDING INTERNAL REPORTS FOLLOWING EACH MEETING AND ULTIMATELY, THE GENERATION OF A RECOMMENDATIONS REPORT FOR POLICYMAKERS.
THE COAL COMMUNITIES ROUNDTABLE IS A FORUM CREATED IN 2020 BY JHCGA - ECOSYSTEM WITH A LEADING FOCUS ON WYOMING THAT BRINGS COAL COMMUNITIES FROM THE WORLD'S LARGEST COAL PRODUCERS TOGETHER TO SHARE NEW IDEAS FROM THE BOTTOM UP. BY BRINGING IN DIVERSE AND GLOBAL SPEAKERS, THE ROUNDTABLE CREATES A WATERING HOLE TO SHARE THE EXPERIENCES, CHALLENGES, AND BEST PRACTICES THAT CAN HELP CREATE NEW POLICY SOLUTIONS; HASTEN NEW INVESTMENTS; BRING NEW TALENT AND JOBS; DIVERSIFY ECONOMIES; AND REDUCE CARBON EMISSIONS. PARTICIPANTS IN THE GROUP ARE STAKEHOLDERS FROM THE ORGANIZATIONS AND COMMUNITIES ON THE FRONT LINES IN THE CHALLENGES FACING COAL COMMUNITIES.
FOUNDED IN 2008, THE GLOBAL BUSINESS ROUNDTABLE (GBR), IS A LONGSTANDING SPEAKER SERIES RUN BY THE JACKSON HOLE CENTER FOR GLOBAL AFFAIRS THAT BRINGS SPEAKERS IN THE GLOBAL POLITICAL ECONOMY TOGETHER WITH CITIZENS OF JACKSON HOLE ON A MONTHLY BASIS. THE PROGRAM PROVIDES A LEADING FORUM FOR OPEN DISCOURSE BETWEEN EXPERTS AND CITIZENS ON SOME OF THE MOST CHALLENGING AND RELEVANT GLOBAL ISSUES OF OUR TIME. PROGRAM EXPENSES COVER THE MANAGEMENT, RECRUITMENT OF SPEAKERS, AND LOGISTICS ASSOCIATED WITH RUNNING THE GBR ON A MONTHLY BASIS.
